Open Letter to Tua

Dear Tua,

It's apparent that you're not happy with the offer that the FO has given you for your next contract. However, you have to be realistic. Earlier you mentioned that "the market is the market". Just because the Jaguars and Lions paid both Lawrence and Goff doesn't entitle you to the same amount. IMO, Jacksonville was foolish to pay Lawrence so much money. They also don't have as many talented players especially on offense as you have either.

Coach McDaniel has done a phenomenal job in building up your confidence after the Flores debacle. IMO, there is no one in the NFL who runs the RPO better than you. In addition, fans and teammates want to see you get paid. As you're aware, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN wrote about how executives rank the QBs and unfortunately for you, they ranked you 14th. Now I disagree with that ranking because I believe that over the last couple of seasons that you should be ranked in the top 10. The facts are the facts.

The narrative on your career is that you're an accurate passer with a weak arm. Also, that you can't win against playoff teams, nor can you win in cold weather. Frankly, I believe that's hogwash. The fans and media love to talk about a QBs W-L Record. Personally, I disagree with that because IMO, the W-L record belongs to the HC. I have been a fan of the Dolphins since 1971 and I remember, the media criticizing Don Shula because he lost in the Super Bowl to the Jets and Cowboys. I certainly don't remember, the media criticizing Unitas or Griese.

QBs should be ranked based on the following criteria: Passer Rating, TDs/Interception Ratio, Yards Per Pass, and comeback wins. Last season provides a good example. The loss to Tennessee was on the defense. On the other hand, the win against the Cowboys was a comeback win for you and the team.

The goal of every player should be to win a Super Bowl. IMO, Chris Grier has done an excellent job of acquiring talent and the organization is doing a much better job of developing players. For instance, the team has to re-sign Jevon Holland and Jaelen Phillips. Plus, the FO needs to restructure Tyreek Hill's contract.

Therefore, if you were my son, I would recommend that you sign a 4-year contract extension for $45 million guaranteed with incentives.

Go Fins!
