This template is for easy linking to entries in the Wikidata glossary. Your first parameter should be the anchor for the glossary entry you wish to link to. So, to link to WD:GLOSS#Item, you'd write {{Glossary|Item}}
, which generates the text Item. If you'd like the text to display as anything other than the anchor's name, you can set the optional second parameter to the intended name of the display text. So, to link to WD:GLOSS#Item but display the text "lemma", you'd write {{Glossary|item|lemma}}
, which generates the text lemma.
Case sensitivity
All of the anchors in the glossary use uppercase first letters, and the vast majority of browsers are case-sensitive with their anchors. This template will work whether or not you capitalize the first letter - {{Glossary|Label}}
(Label) and {{Glossary|label}}
(label) work just the same. If, for whatever reason, you'd like to link to any other capitalization, though, ("LABEL", "lAbEl", etc.), you have to use the second parameter, e.g. as {{Glossary|Label|LABEL}}
or {{Glossary|label|LABEL}}
(LABEL).
Pluralization
While you can create a pluralized display text using the second parameter ({{Glossary|Description|descriptions}}
to generate the text descriptions), the MediaWiki software allows for the much simpler {{Glossary|description}}s
(descriptions).
You can also use this for any other (lowercase) string of characters after the template, e.g. {{Glossary|query}}ing
(querying), {{Glossary|Wikidata}}isthebestknowledgebaseever
(Wikidataisthebestknowledgebaseever), etc.
