Why has commons:Category:Naval ships been removed? It's clearly the related category for most interwikis.--Pere prlpz (talk) 10:53, 17 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

As I understand it, there was a decision made to only make one Commons category to item link with say "main topic". If that's true, then the item which actually fits better is naval vessel (Q177597), which in English is in fact "naval ships". --Izno (talk) 00:16, 18 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There might be an interwiki conflict, but if you check the content of articles linked here, nearly all of them deal with naval ships (e.g. all kind of ships held by navies, with or without actually carrying weapons or being intended to engage in combat). Furthermore, most articles have sections about auxiliary ships. The only exception I've found is English Wikipedia, which has a different article for naval ships and a different one for warships. Therefore, if you check all articles instead of just the English one, commons:Category:Naval ships matches the topic of this item.
Anyway, changing the English interwiki could be helpful.--Pere prlpz (talk) 07:56, 18 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

warships include submarines

[edit]

So I've broadened the description and type to include watercraft. See https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata_talk:WikiProject_Ships#watercraft%2C_boat%2C_vessel%2C_submarine%2C_or_ship for rationale Vicarage (talk) 18:34, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
