What’s your take on Cavnar?

First of all let me begin by saying none of this criticism comes from a sexist point of view. I think it’s wonderful that women are breaking into baseball announcing! However, I do feel like there are many women announcers who deserved the opportunity to be the first female head play-by-play announcer!

I always liked Jenny when she was with us as a sideline reporter…but NOT in the booth. I’d even take Jeff Huson anytime over her. Due to my current health issues I’m not able to watch many Rockies games this season, but I always have a morning routine of watching highlights from the night before while drinking coffee. Even if the Rockies lose but had some good hits/plays I’ll watch them first, then turn to the top MLB highlights. Whenever there’s a clip for the A’s, I have to mute it, I can’t help it! I feel bad for her and know she’s constantly slammed, she was rushed into the position. She cannot read the ball off the bat to save her life and when something exciting happens her reactions feel SO forced. Like an A’s player can hit a no-doubter to the point the OF’r doesn’t hardly move, and she’ll say "this ball is hit pretty deep, will it be enough?" All the while the ball already crossed the wall and is about to land, and then 3 seconds after it lands she says in an unenthusiastic fashion "and that’s going to be a home run." It seems like she is always two seconds behind, like she’s so worried about pulling a Goodman, she has to ensure the play is finished before concluding her announcement. And I’m sure some of you have heard her infamous "and now we have ourselves an even up game!" After knocking in the tying run with one out left in the game (a very exciting moment).

I don’t know, I don’t want to rip on her too bad, I have nothing personal against her. Although even when she was with us I felt like maybe she got the job through some slight nepotism due to her father being the coach of Regis high school and his connections with the Rockies.

I just wished she stayed where she fit, being a sideline reporter.

I'm curious to know how my fellow Rockies fans feel? From what I can tell A’s fans aren’t a big fan of her, half of their disdain is genuine and half is sexist…which I find ironic considering I lived in the Bay Area for almost a decade and you can’t find a more liberal area.
