The Department of Epidemiology and Public Health (EPH) has grown over the past few decades into one of the largest basic science departments in the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

EPH makes significant contributions to the teaching mission at the School of Medicine and brings in annual research dollars that, on average, represent approximately nine percent of all NIH funding at the School of Medicine.

Our research strengths are reflected in the substantial amount of direct research funding that we receive each year. Our specialties deal with the causes, distribution, prevention, and control of disease.
