Credit check for depositors?
Appropriate? Who say it has to be? The bank makes their own rules, not you, not me, not any appropriateness fairy.

Maybe they just see a chance to run a check so they can then target you for credit card offers and other "deals?"

Tell them to fuck off, and take your business elsewhere. Loosing your business is what they deserve for such an inappropriate invasion of your privacy.

B.) This piece describes how the artist was inspired by a pine comb.

C.) It's a circular pattern, the first in a star burst style, the other rounded, both with a spectrum gradient. The only feature which gives me pause are the outward bows of the triangles, and these too could be coincidences.… [more]

Was it inappropriate for a highway patrolman to ask me to sit in his car?
And also, OP, you could have refused.

Just say, "I don't feel comfortable getting into the car with you. Let's talk here on the side of the road or I'll wait in my car."

If the cop is going to MAKE you get into the car, you're GOING into that car no matter what. If he's asking you, then it's optional.

When should I disclose my low sex drive to a potential partner?
Sexual incompatibility is hell - for both people. I won't defend your ex, but it's safe to say he suffered too in the relationship.

My question is this: do you want to improve your sex drive? If so, go to the doctor. It could be hormonal, it could be psychological or some combination of the two. A doctor can help, but you have to stick with it.

As for when to tell someone? Sadly I think most men are going to find your… [more]

Is it wrong for my sister-in-law to date a retarded man?
Developmentally they both sound like they are pretty close on a couple of levels.

Not saying that your sister couldn't or won't "grow out of this," but what if she doesn't? What if "Corky" becomes your brother-in-law? What are you going to do then?

Let your sister live her life. It sounds like she's already had enough people meddling in it already (your parents) - let her make her own mistakes.

What do I need to do to store my mountain bike?
Please don't use WD40 on your bike, unless you're only spraying a rag to wipe it down with. WD40 can force grime and dirt deeper into places where it's not supposed to be. It also evaporates leaving parts unprotected.

WD40 is great for cleaning, but not for protecting or lubing.

Use a proper bike lube from your local bike shop.

Buying a new Mountain Bike
I'm a road bike guy and when comparing brands there simply isn't the range in price you see for MTB when you're going components to components. This is because at the mid-level range frame specs are nearly identical. It really comes down to getting the best component group for the price.

This doesn't apply as well to MTBs where advanced engineering in the frame and geometry can vary greatly among manufacturers.

Will you notice a difference… [more]

So, I'm thinking of becoming a spinster...
Your entire AskMe reads like a single's ad. You're obviously trying to justify your single lifestyle, which is fine, but do so in a way that says you're open for anything.

My advice: take this attitude online, work the various dating websites, and be grown up and serious about what you want. Go on dates, but only do so with other people who seem equally grown up and serious, and keep at it until you find someone you like.

It's not easy, but it ain't hard either, sister. Hang in there.

You should go after the journal, not the plagiarizers.

The journal accepted it, reviewed, etc. Presumably your own work was readily available to them.

I like serial form documentaries, not movie length. Not sure if that's a consideration or not.

Both have British narrators, so, that might be a consideration too as a schooled English accent can make anything sound high brow.

I want to play Lollapalooza but I'm not on the bill
Bad idea. The city takes Lollapalooza very seriously. The area around the gates will be heavily patrolled and they will frown on any stunt which could possibly disrupt the flow of pedestrian traffic.

A better (read: legally safer) way to do it would be to get a performer's license and just setup on the sidewalk nearby. That way, if you're hassled by the cops, at least you're protected.

5.1 Sound system on the cheap
The Klipsch HD Theater 300 system has a MSRP of $399. You'd still need a 5.1 channel receiver to use it. Still, it's a "real" solution rather than just another computer speaker setup. If you want that, you should look at products from Logitech.

I personally find 5.1 home theater systems atrocious, but if I were going to build one on a shoe string budget, I'd take my time, do research, and work the second-hand market at eBay or your local pawn shop.

Go to your local (preferably independent) home improvement stores and buy some new anchors. I like the largish drill in type over the small plastic ones you nail in. With the larger ones you can use the current holes, otherwise you'll need to reposition the rack on the wall.

It's a simple procedure, but you need a power drill with some screw bits to do it right.
