2012 The inaugural issue was released. Cells was published as a quarterly journal.
2013 Cells was indexed in PubMed.
2015 Cells established the following sections:

-Cell Motility and Adhesion;
-Cell Signaling and Regulated Cell Death;
-Cell Nuclei: Function, Transport and Receptors;
-Autophagy and Organelle Function.
2016 Cells announced the first edition of the Travel Award.
2017 Cells was indexed in Science Citation Index Expanded - Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics).
2018 Cells received its first Impact Factor (4.829).
Cells established the following section:
-Stem Cells.
Cells announced the first edition of the Young Investigator Award.
2019 Cells became an affiliated journal of the Spanish Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SEBBM).
Cells established the following sections:

-Plant, Algae and Fungi Cell Biology;

-Cellular Immunology;
-Cellular Pathology.
2020 Cells announced the first edition of the Outstanding Reviewer Award and Academic Conference Grants Award.
Cells established the following sections: 

-Cells of the Nervous System;
-Cell Cycle;
-Cellular Aging.
2021 Cells was indexed in Scopus.
Cells announced the first edition of the Highly Cited Paper Award, Best Paper Award for Anniversary Special Issues, PhD Thesis Award and Best Video Abstract Award.
Cells established the following Sections:

-Cellular Biophysics;
-Cellular Metabolism;
-Cell Methods;
-Cell Microenvironment;

Cell Cycle was renamed as Cell Proliferation and Division.
2022 The year 2022 marked the 10th Anniversary of Cells.
