I learned about this band from Courtney Barnett, another Australian musician who has a lyric referencing The Triffids in her song "History Eraser". She is great, I trusted her taste and was not disappointed. The Triffids remind me of if The Smiths and The Cars made a love child.

Their spare, sometimes mysterious music comes across as a series of mini love letters to Australia. Not the increasingly Americanized Australia that is prominent amongst the major cities along the coast. I'm talking true blue, dinky-di country towns, the rich red outback, diesel and dust, let's have a cold beer on a Sunday arvo and record an album in a sheep sheering shed kind of Australia. That's the Triffids. They were a special band.

probably one of the greatest bands of all time-- once you scratch the surface you just find more and more completely essential music. way more than just another post-punk band. "Wide Open Road" and the like are amazing, but truly the best stuff is buried a little deeper with these guys.

I absolutely adore this band. The variety of melancholy displayed is amazing. The range from the brilliant "Convent Walls" to the equally brilliant "Tarrilup Bridge" says it all. Not to mention my all time favourite Triffids moment, the version of "Wish To See No More" from In The Pines.

I try to sing the praises of Dave and The Triffids but it doesn't seem to work most of the time. I guess some things never change. An Australia-sized talent.

The 10 CD version of of Greatest Hits will be worth buying for the PBS Prince of Wales concert alone. Bootlegged as "Caught in the Act" if this was released at the time it would have pushed The Triffids into the stratosphere. The missing link between Treeless Plain and Field of Glass

God, I could see Wide Open Road being used in some shitty show like Grey's Anatomy. Maybe it's best this band isn't so well-known...

I was thinking about it recently, and I reckon they're like the Australian Smiths.

A criminally underrated group. Imagine my displeasure playing the Triffids Radio, and not hearing them.( like I mentioned earlier) So I've scrobbled some tracks to get them up my charts, where they belong.

Black Swan - an incredibly ignored album that I think is now their finest work. An album to listen to in one hit - shame there aren't any full tracks on here though...

She says "what's the matter now, loverboy, has the cat run off with your tongue? Are you drinking to get maudlin... or drinking to get numb?" <3
