Neige is tapping into some powerful space magic energies with his songwriting, he is truly a noble soul in a world of zombie npcs.

One of the best bands ever. They are so good. Every song really works with them. They have no fillers or bad songs.

This is a phenomenon that can be seen in many bands. Short atmospheric songs are skipped or considered unnecessary. But songs like Abysses or Onyx are the ones that are played live at the start or end of the concert and they immediately remind you of a good time.

When Neige was a child he dreamt about "Souvenirs d'un autre monde". When I was a child I had a nightmare about a spider-chicken.

Same, I just saw them again yesterday and they're still alive and kicking - absolutely astonishing performance, the stage decoration for this tour is also very beautiful and fitting

I love all the albums so very much, and the new one is no exception. I can't believe how much I listened to them this year; I don't know how this happened.

I kind of want to enjoy this but the vocals are too low in the mix, can barely understand anything they're saying.

Sounds like Alcest provides you with pleasure, and your plays indicate that you're probably into it... No need to be self-depreciating; be proud and own that shit. Be Metal. Be like Alcest.

Alcest is a band way too "Pop" in my opinion in order for me to fully enjoy them nowadays. They can be labeled as "Black Metal" while if you observe their fan base you will see that most of their fanbase are not really people who enjoy regular Black Metal, but rather people who like more Pop-oriented songs (such as Shoegaze, Post-Rock, this kind of stuff). This, allied with the fact that they are not really "experimenting" anything new on the last decade, makes me get bored of this band. Not that this is a problem, but to my personal taste that's all just "not for me/my age" anymore.

Yes, fans of "poppy" music, like post-rock outfits GY!BE and Swans, or "trendy" dream pop and shoegaze like Slowdive and Candy Claws, sometimes overlap with Alcest fans!I think it's interesting that you would characterize post-rock and shoegaze as pop-oriented, considering the former is an experimental rock genre that generally rejects conventional songwriting. The latter is an introverted, often noisy subgenre whose existence most pop and top hits fans aren't even aware of (I used to believe shoegaze & dream pop were "popular" and had pop appeal too — mostly because it *felt* poppier in contrast to metal. Then I tried to introduce shoegaze & dream pop to the actual pop fans in my life; they all proceeded to roast me for the obscurity and niche appeal 🤨). Imo, shoegaze and black metal overlap in surprising places (ex - reverb, drone, distortion) that makes both inaccessible and polarizing.

On a sidenote, I feel way too old to worry about how much black metal, or what other subgenres of metal and rock, I or others listen to. Splitting hairs trying to determine how "trve" respective metal and metal-adjacent subgenres supposedly are... I used to care about that when I was 13? Never again. I believe (black) metal purists and gatekeeping are falling into the trap of self-enforced conformity. Conformity is the antithesis of the ethos of metal and is part of what makes certain styles sound stale and uninnovative. Love them or hate them — but when Alcest entered the metal scene, no one sounded like them. They pioneered a whole new sound that others still strive to emulate and draw inspiration from.

This new album left me thoughtless, speechless. I was working while listening to it but now only the last song remains and I realized I've just been staring outside for a while. Alcest is so powerful, this is literally genius stuff.

Fuck, yeah! Blows them out of the water. I really don't get the hype for those two albums... Way too stripped back/basic, with the latter being too proggy, lacking the beautiful, ethereal atmosphere that make Alcest special. For me, this new album is a great return to form and up there with some of their best material. 'Souvernirs d'un autre monde' will no doubt always be my favourite, as I got into them just before it was released, but 'Les chants de l'aurore' is for sure up there. It pretty much has a mix of every album released up until now...

"l'adieu" feels like that sorrow-filled, beautiful moment when you're standing at the train station saying goodbye to a dear friend or loved one. you talk about how nice it was to see each other after such a long time, promise to keep in touch, and vow to meet again sooner than this time. but deep inside, you both have that small inkling that these are the inevitable, forever goodbyes.
