Last night, In Flames was amazing at Hammersmith. Played a track from Colony, Whoracle and finished on My Sweet Shadow. Where was this setlist at Bloodstock? Just a total and complete borefest made up of their last 2 albums.

I don't know what that's supposed to tell but anyway I'm talking about the music. I rarely care about lyrics.

yeah arghoslent is definitely more saccharine and derivative while in flames is heavy and packs a real punch

The Lunar Strain up until Clayman is their 10/10album era and it is their best

I mean... it's a great instrumental, but yeah, it is strange that it's up there at the top of the most scrobbled songs. Did it get onto a TV show? Did it get big on Tiktok?

Apparently it just auto plays after every Playlist people listen to that has anything close to In Flames sounding.

If you like old In Flames albums and want more of this swedish mdm sound, do yourself a favor and check out the band called Nightrage

Mostly listen to their early records from 94-00 period, especially Subterranean, The Jester Race amd Colony - one of the best albums in melodic extreme metal. Their next era is more meh, but there are plenty of really cool songs on Come Clarity and A Sence Of Purpose, for wich I consider 00's in IF discography as a good period too, though more simple musically, than their earliest. About albums after Strömblad's leaving I can't say much things, because I, honestly, didn't hear most of them yet, but not mdm'ish songs on Foregone left so-so aftertaste because of too poppy lead vocals and a bunch of other things.

Just ran through their discography for the first time in my life, and now I can't stop asking myself - why did I put such an awesome band on the back burner? Every single album from The Jester Race to A Sense of Purpose is a goddamn masterpiece filled with bangers. Next four albums were, for the most part, too tedious and slow-paced to my taste, but Foregone really spiced things up with "old In Flames-esque" songs like Foregone Pt. 1 and The Great Deciever. I'm glad to say I'm a fan now!

the fact that us notqueer butts webshop still has most of the dismember fancy colored LP reissues in stock something like 9-10 months after they were released, yet sold out of those in flames fancy colored LP reissues on preorder shows that y'all have your heads in your inverted genitalia.

all eras has good songs, but i cant deny they were surperior in 90s for me, and still makes it. Which are your favoritealbum and the worst. The Jester Race/Lunar Strain is my favorites alot of fine works on that. Worst is hard to say Siren Charms was very clean voices.

My favourite is the Jester Race, so many good sons. Whoracle has some amazing songs (Jotun, Episode 666) but as a whole I don't think it's as strong as Colony or TJR. Worst for me is Siren Charms and I The Mask, I only like 1 song on each (Rusted Nail, and the title track off ITM). Battles gets a lot of flack but I think it's better than those 2 it's sandwiched between. The band really did lose me enjoying full albums after Come Clarity & A Sense of Purpose. ASOP is underrated, it's like Colony for me, where every song is good! Just IMO obviously.

Prefer Lunar Strain over everything they did later. This is the type of MDM I like. Dark, raw, slightly black metalish in delivery and atmosphere. It's like it was done by a completely different band. Can't say what's the worst, but definitely something from their later stuff. At some point I just stopped following them and just once in a while kept running into random new songs and each time it seemed to get worse.

I gotta agree with the general opinion regarding them and say that The Jester Race is the best, very closely followed by Clayman. However, i love pretty much all the albums with Jesper (STYE took me a while but it has really grown on me too), and Foregone. 2011-2019 IF was kinda hit or miss for me, but i'd have to listen to those albums more too, each album had some good songs at least. I think i'd have to agree with Siren Charms being the weakest one too.

I have not listened to In Flames seriously in over a decade, nothing more than a track here and there since about 2010 maybe. I'm sick and feel like shit, I think I will dig through their post 2006 butt rock catalogue and see if it's as bad as I hear. I have a pretty diverse taste, so I am sure there are a few hidden gems. Glad I wrote this, just talking into the void of nothingness.

Funny how this band was never nicknamed "In Rock" once they shifted towards rock, like some people had a nickname for Metallica when they did that, "Rocktallica". "In Rocks" would have worked too.

When did In Flames do that? It's definitely all Metal to me, just more Alternative Metal or even Metalcore later.

Eh, not really, some songs maybe, but they never turned into an Alt Rock band to me, Alt Metal for sure.

I was very hard initially on Foregone. Maybe I was expecting something even more similar to their classic albums, but it is an excellent mix of the best of all their eras. The more you listen to the album it becomes addictive.

The only minor problem i have with it is that Anders' vocals still don't sound natural at times, and this has been a problem for me since Playground from what i remember, but i'll have to listen to some of those albums again too. In terms of the music it's on par with anything up to ASOP, pretty much (well, obviously better than Soundtrack, but not better than the other albums up to that point IMO).

probably the most overrated band from Europe, possibly even in all of metal. they had 1 great album and 4 good albums before deciding they wanted to be slightly heavier and less edgier Korn with lead guitars. they stopped being metal about a decade and a half ago or something. Is mallcore with bad grammar. not that there's anything wrong with being mallcore, just not metal.

Subterranean is the best fucking melodeath release ever. Colder and more evil than anything else.

LOL TRUE! Was talking about melodeath in particular but HUNGERRRR.. THE WORD OF WOLVES. RHYTHMS COLLAPSE AGAINST CLOSED DOOOOORS!!!

Well, I'd say it is still melodic death although a very twisted and dissonant kind, hence I posted reading your comment. Hard to imagine the same guys would shortly go on to destroy music in general a few years later. At least In flames isn't guilty of that so points to them.
