El Heavy Alternative (Alternativo Pesado en inglés) es un subgénero del Rock Alternativo (Alternative Rock) que se mezlca con el Post-Hardcore y se caracteriza por su pesadez y uso de pedales; es un tipo de Rock Alternativo mucho más pesado y a la vez atrapante con sus efectos en las guitarras. La banda Hum hizo este tipo de sonido en su álbum You'd Prefer An Astronaut antes que muchas bandas lo hicieran, por lo que se los considera como una de las bandas pioneras en este género musical.
