2024 was a good year for the action genre fans as this year saw the release of many brilliant films like Monkey Man and The Fall Guy. While many films like Dune Part Two had great action in them, they weren’t actually action films. We didn’t include those, so let’s find out which of the 2024 action films were the best.

While celebrities often seem larger than life, many are surprisingly petite in stature! From Hollywood icons to pop superstars, these female celebrities prove that big talent comes in small packages — all standing 5’2″ or under!
5’2 is generally considered to be short, but not abnormally so. The average height for a woman in the United States is 5’4, so while 5’2 is below average, it isn’t too far off.

"Wow you're home is super nice." It might be a good idea to never meet your fans. It can be super awkward if you ever meet them – maybe even dangerous. Yet another eerie new film about parasocial relationships. Holiday House is a short film created by Alex Heller, who also directed & starred in the indie film The Year Between a few years ago. Heller describes it as "mysterious, miniature movie." A content creator feels obligated to let her internet benefactor visit her workshop. His arrival explores uncomfortable boundaries of a parasocial friendship. Starring AnnaSophia Robb as Shelley & David Brown as Marky, with Antonio Marziale & Adrienne Becker. It is very similar to the other short called Followers about a similar home invasion. I also always reference Ingrid Goes West as the original film about parasocial relationships, where people create extremely unhealthy connections to folks they only know on social media. Freaky!

NBC has announced when the new drama Grosse Pointe Garden Society will premiere, but does it have the right time slot?
NBC is wrapping up its 2024 slate by announcing when shows will be returning in winter 2025. That includes the new drama Grosse Pointe Garden Society. It comes from Jenna Bans and Will Krebs, the creators of the underrated but popular crime dramedy Good Girls. It refers to the ladies of a local garden club who “find their lives intertwined by scandal, mischief and murder.”
The show is set to debut Sunday, Feb. 23, at 10/9c on NBC. That seems a good place on the surface, but is it really that good a spot for this series?
Why Grosse Pointe Garden Society may have a bad time slot

“Who Are You Fest” is going down on “The Masked Singer” this week, and both Ken Jeong and Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg are pretty sure they know who Macaron is. Of course, they definitely have wildly different guesses.
In TheWrap’s exclusive sneak peek at Wednesday’s episode, Jeong zeroes in on clues indicating that Macaron has “been through a lot” and is on a “road to redemption” to inform his guess at what famous woman might be beneath the mask.
“Rose is literally in the clues, and also, AnnaSophia Robb is in the clues because she starred in ‘The Act,’ which was based on her life, which she is now rebuilding and redeeming. I think Macaron could be Gypsy Rose Blanchard,” he guesses.
Watch the clip below:
For once, Jeong’s guess isn’t immediately booed, with fellow panelist Rita Ora admitting, “I actually thought that too,” while host Nick Cannon says it’s “not impossible.

It has been a while since Jeremy Saulnier gifted audiences with a film. After the one-two punch of 2013’s tense Blue Ruin and 2015’s masterful Green Room, Saulnier was solidified as a director worth watching. Since then, he has made 2018’s Hold the Dark, and worked on season 3 of True Detective. With Rebel Ridge, the writer/director has delivered another work that shows why he remains one of the most exciting filmmakers working today.
The story opens with the sight of Terry Richmond (Aaron Pierre), a former Marine, cycling into the town of Shelby Springs. With Metallica blaring in his earbuds, this prominent character is shown to be singularly focused as he rides into town with $36,000 in cash, money intended to post bail for his cousin...

[This story contains spoilers for Rebel Ridge.]
Rebel Ridge star AnnaSophia Robb is keenly aware that no one could write a more storybook ending to the behind-the scenes saga of Jeremy Saulnier’s latest critically acclaimed film.
The thriller, which required multiple attempts at completing principal photography before finally wrapping in 2022, has reigned atop Netflix’s top ten and various other streaming originals charts in the two-and-a-half weeks it’s been available to stream. The pic chronicles Aaron Pierre’s Terry Richmond and Robb’s Summer McBride as they risk life and limb to put a stop to a corrupt small-town police department in Louisiana.
After the film’s scheduled production was shut down by the pandemic in 2020, Robb joined the cast ahead of 2021’s spring shoot, replacing another actor in the process. A month into filming, former lead actor, John Boyega, abruptly left the project due to “family reasons,” putting the mid-budget film in a precarious situation.

It didn’t feel as though Rebel Ridge had a ton of buzz leading up to its premiere on Netflix, but Jeremy Saulnier’s action thriller is making up for that in a big way. For the second week in a row, Rebel Ridge is dominating Netflix’s Top 10 list, with 38.6 million views. Its closest competitor, the sci-fi movie Uglies, is lagging behind with 20.8 million views
Rebel Ridge stars Aaron Pierre as Terry Richmond, a former Marine who “enters the town of Shelby Springs on a simple but urgent mission– post bail for his cousin and save him from imminent danger. But when Terry’s life’s savings is unjustly seized by law-enforcement, he’s forced to go head to head with local police chief Sandy Burnne (Don Johnson) and his combat-ready officers. Terry finds an unlikely ally in court clerk Summer McBride (AnnaSophia Robb) and the two become ensnared...

This post contains spoilers for "Rebel Ridge."
"Green Room" director Jeremy Saulnier's latest movie, "Rebel Ridge," is currently sitting atop the Netflix charts just a few days after its debut. "Rebel Ridge" is a stellar action thriller with spectacular performances from Aaron Pierre, Don Johnson, and AnnaSophia Robb, and although it takes some cues from films like "First Blood," Saulnier manages to make it feel distinctly modern.
I caught up with the director recently over Zoom and had a spoiler-filled conversation with him about how much "First Blood" inspired this project, the aspect of the movie Saulnier refers to as "career-defining," and much more. Specifically, I asked him about the ending, which, although I still love the film, I personally think undercuts the movie's strongest message. Did Saulnier change the story to appease Netflix, or were the final moments -- in which the cops of Shelby Springs end up coming...

Jeremy Saulnier's latest movie, "Rebel Ridge," just debuted on Netflix — and critics are loving the newest project from the director of "Green Room."
According to FlixPatrol, the movie — which Saulnier wrote and edited as well — has been the most-watched Netflix film in the U.S. since it hit the streamer on September 6, 2024. It also has a pretty astounding Rotten Tomatoes rating of 95% (as of this writing). With Aaron Pierre in the lead role of Marine veteran Terry Richmond — a role that was originally played by "Star Wars" veteran John Boyega until the actor departed due to family commitments — the movie has a pretty impressive cast, with James Cromwell, Don Johnson, AnnaSophia Robb, David Denman, and Emory Cohen flanking Pierre.
So, what is "Rebel Ridge" about? As the movie begins, Pierre's Terry is heading to post bail for his cousin Mike (C.J. LeBlanc) and plans to buy a truck afterwards...

Director Jeremy Saulnier’s gritty action thriller Rebel Ridge brilliantly balances the intensity of its grounded spectacle with an intimate, emotionally charged undertone, and part of the credit for this perfect assimilation goes to the compelling performance by the cast and memorable characterization. Not only the lead roles played by veteran actors who are ever reliable in their craft, but even the minor characters played by relatively new performers with minimal screen time made a lasting impact in the movie despite having mostly conventional parts, which goes on to prove not only the deftness of script but also proper casting as well.

Blue Ruin and Green Room writer/director Jeremy Saulnier opts not to complete his own three-colour trilogy with Rebel Ridge (‘Red Ridge’ was right there), instead saddling this engaging 21st century riff on First Blood with a banal title that doesn’t do it justice. For Saulnier, though, it must be quite a relief just to get this Netflix project out the door, after the 2020 production was waylaid first by Covid and then by the sudden departure of original star John Boyega. Happily, Aaron Pierre proves a more than capable replacement, shrugging into the skin of a former Marine and enthusiastic cyclist who finds himself firmly at odds with a small-town police department.
After being rammed off his bike by a patrol car for cycling while Black in the Louisiana town of Shelby Springs, Richmond (Pierre) is subjected to a legal if ethically dubious search and seizure, which sees the...

“Rebel Ridge” is a movie starring Aaron Pierre and Don Johnson. With AnnaSophia Robb and James Cromwell. It is written and directed by Jeremy Saulnier.
“Rebel Ridge” stands out as a film with a compelling script and impressive performances, crafting a thriller that engages viewers with its pacing, intrigue, and richly developed characters without drawing undue attention to itself. At first glance, it appears to be a straightforward story about corruption, yet it cleverly reveals a deeper narrative concerning police funding in certain Louisiana towns, which is genuinely fascinating.
The standout feature of this film is its script, which skillfully creates two well-rounded characters, brought to life by actors who fit their roles perfectly. This highlights the undeniable truth that a strong script makes the entire filmmaking process smoother and more impactful.

Many movies have been made about soldiers whose skill set proves out of step once they re-enter the civilian world. Some of them treat those differences with empathy and insight; but more often than not, they leverage them for explosive, empty action sequences. “Rebel Ridge” mostly falls perfunctorily in the latter category.
Written and directed by Jeremy Saulnier (“Green Room”), the film’s focus on a Black soldier adds degrees of complexity to the conflicts that erupt between him and local law enforcement in a small, mostly white town. But if racial politics (cinematic and otherwise) prompt Saulnier to treat him marginally more thoughtfully than most movie veterans, the filmmaker’s obligations to genre formula end up overshadowing those differences by the time the last empty, explosive action sequence has unfolded.

Jeremy Saulnier’s new film Rebel Ridge tackles an issue at the forefront of many Americans’ minds—the role and overreach of local law enforcement. Streaming on Netflix, the movie tells the story of Terry Richmond, a man traveling through a small Louisiana town who has the misfortune of encountering the town’s crooked police force. They seize Terry’s money through the questionable practice of civil asset forfeiture, starting a dispute that escalates dramatically as Terry strives to hold those in power accountable.
At its core, Rebel Ridge presents a fast-paced thriller in the style of classic 80s action movies. But it uses that framework to shed light on modern problems within America’s legal system. Issues like asset forfeiture and police abuse of power are infused throughout the narrative in a way that remains highly engaging, even as the film delivers its socially conscious message. From his small-scale debut, Blue Ruin, to his genre breakthrough, Green Room, he’s always had a talent for mixing bone-crunching violence with a surprising amount of soulfulness. While I thought his last film, Hold The Dark, was a mixed bag, it had one incredible shoot-out about mid-way through the movie that made me think that Saulnier, should he ever go that route, would make one heck of a legit action film.
Lucky for us, he went that route.
Rebel Ridge is probably Saulnier’s most conventional and accessible film to date, but it also ranks as one of the most entertaining films Netflix, which is dropping the film this week, has made in some time. Gorgeously shot and featuring a breakout...

A ruthlessly efficient thriller fueled by boiling rage, Jeremy Saulnier’s Rebel Ridge wastes no time setting the stakes. Terry Richmond (Aaron Pierre) is listening to metal music on his headphones, biking into the fictional small town of Shelby Springs, Louisiana, when a police cruiser crashes into him, forcing a tumble to the ground. He sold his car and a stake in a restaurant he had. With the resulting $36K in cash, he was on his way to bail out a cousin incarcerated for possession of marijuana. From the police’s point of view, he had been evading arrest over the two miles they’d tailed him. Despite only giving him a traffic violation, they enact civil asset forfeiture, seizing all of his cash under the suspicion it may be drug money. This sets the mysterious, resourceful, strong-willed Terry on a mission of combating this police corruption and overreach by...

When Sir Isaac Newton wrote his three famous laws — about objects set in motion by an outside force, objects accelerating, and objects colliding — I suspect he wasn’t talking about physics. He was probably talking about Jeremy Saulnier’s new thriller “Rebel Ridge.”
“Rebel Ridge” is a masterpiece of conflict and tension, a crime thriller that begins with a tiny act and gradually builds momentum, never taking an obvious path, until it finally reaches a natural, but gigantic conclusion. On its face it’s a standard thriller about corrupt cops and a heroic ex-marine seeking justice. At its core… that’s what it is too. But it’s as excellent and as smart and as meaningful as a movie with those tried-and-true tropes can possibly be.
Aaron Pierre (“Old”) stars as Terry Richmond, who in the film’s opening moments is hauling ass on his bicycle, Iron Maiden blasting through his headphones.

The films of Jeremy Saulnier have staked out a unique space in film culture over the last decade. They’re not supernatural or overtly horrific enough to be classified as “Elevated Horror” (that once-proud moniker that now garners nearly as much derision as fawning), but calling them “Elevated Suspense” feels about right. And Saulnier’s films even share a favorite trope with Alfred Hitchcock, the Master of Suspense himself: that of the wrong man in the wrong place at the wrong time.
That’s the initial grip of Saulnier’s latest thriller, the Netflix film “Rebel Ridge,” which stars Aaron Pierre as Terry, a man who runs afoul of local law enforcement in a small Louisiana town after he commits the crime of riding a bike while Black. The officers who stop Terry illegally search him and find over $30,000 in cash, which they seize even after Terry explains that he...

Jeremy Saulnier’s Rebel Ridge is a race thriller that, up to a point, is as effective as they come. A Black man, Terry Richmond (Aaron Pierre), is racing down a Louisiana backroad on his bike, Iron Maiden’s “The Number of the Beast” blasting on his headphones. From there, he’s promptly rear-ended and thrown off his bike by a cop car in pursuit, held up at gunpoint, and thrown against the car by two officers. For some 15 minutes, we’re simply bearing witness to the kind of traffic stop that’s gotten so many Black people killed, and Saulnier twists the knife by expertly modulating the tension between the cops clearly looking for any reason to bust out the weaponry and Terry refusing to capitulate to his clear harassment.
Violence doesn’t ignite here, thanks to Terry unbelievably maintaining a cool head, but the traffic stop still ends...

At one point, Jeremy Saulnier was one of the most exciting indie filmmakers in the scene. Once upon a time, such an auspicious start to a career would have lent itself to a bout in Hollywood, but Saulnier has instead chosen to take the route of straight-to-streaming action flicks. His latest outing, Rebel Ridge, certainly shows his personality, keeping it from descending to the level of some of the slop we see on streaming these days. Still, it doesn’t quite match the level of his earlier outings, settling for being merely entertaining.
Rebel Ridge Review
Rebel Ridge follows a man who, after a seemingly routine traffic stop, has his money stolen by a group of dirty local police officers, sending him onto a violent standoff against the corrupt police chief. As one would expect, there’s more to the mysterious drifter than one would expect, as his background and...

Throughout his series of 21st-century suspense pictures, director Jeremy Saulnier has figured out a number of ways to tighten the screws on his characters and his audience: forcing regular folks to face down horrific violence, stranding characters in the unnerving quiet of American backwoods, exploring and exposing the impractical messiness of revenge.
