Born in Melbourne and uprooted to Seattle as an adolescent, Lonely Benson began writing music as a coping mechanism for the transpacific turmoil. As his talents blossomed over a period of years, he eventually made the move to Nashville in pursuit of a songwriting career that included penning work for country artists and recording experimental solo material on a Tascam 4 Track. Not satisfied with his output, Benson took an extended break from music before returning with a newfound love for bossa-nova jazz and a goal to release a song a month alongside close friend and producer Will Pugh of Cartel fame.
With a developed sound that he characterizes as relaxing, groovy, and equivalent to the experience of hearing music while stoned, tastemaker outlets like Indie Shuffle and Earmilk quickly began to take notice, describing his work as “upbeat-but-easy-going indie rock...with a psychedelic flare” and a “multicoloured daydream.”
On his first single of 2018, Lonely Benson has delivered a thrillingly nuanced synth-pop jaunt called “Let It Go” that winds through groovy guitar work, effects-laced vocals, and a wholly infectious atmosphere. The track comes alongside the release of his full-length debut which features fan favorites like the psychedelic “Location” and Spotify smash “Strawberry Afternoons” alongside brand new cuts.
