Frederick Ganyani Tshabalala (born 19 January, in a township called Meadowlands), professionally known as DJ Ganyani, is a South African recording artist and record producer, who has been in the music industry for 31 years.
The Story
DJ Ganyani grew up in Soweto, Meadowlands Zone 5. He attended Rishile Lower Primary School in Meadowlands, Mawila High School, Lamula Jubilee Secondary School, and completed his standard 9 and 10 at Shingwedzi High School in Giyani. . He was more of an academic student in school, a member of the science geeks circle, and never imagined that his passion would one day be music. While he loved music, he never imagined that it would be something he would do to make a living. He enrolled for a BCom Degree with Unisa in 1989, and canceled his studies in the following year, due to not having financial aid.
His journey in Music began in 1990, where he continued the music collection that his father left him with, soon becoming well known in the small town for providing Cassettes with the latest jams. He then identified a need for sound hire while he was at it, and got the tools to rent them out. His journey in the music industry began thereof.
He then developed his interest in music and started learning several DJ techniques to manipulate prerecorded music. These include cueing, equalization, phrasing, beat juggling, etc. to perform the transitions and overdubs of several sources more creatively. His success in music kicked off.
Today he is a professional DJ who masters the technique of using harmonic mixing for choosing compatible songs. This has made him and other local DJs to be the pioneers or the grandmaster of this entertainment technique in the country.
DJ Ganyani is classified as a legendary DJ with turntablism and music production as his main article. He travels and tours and plays from an extensive collection of pre-recorded music, on various media, to wow targeted audiences. In addition to being booked for private functions such as weddings, religious ceremonies, and school dances, he may also appear at bars, nightclubs, neighborhood parties, block parties, and product launches.
