Formed in the late 2000s, Grasscut, a Brighton, England-based duo comprised of notable television and film composer Andrew Phillips and keyboardist/classically trained double bassist Marcus O'Dair craft glitchy, sugary, ambient-steampunk confections that skillfully blur the line between the natural and synthetic worlds. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Kraftwerk, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Devo, and Robert Wyatt.
Grasscut will release their fourth album on Lo Recordings on 12th February 2021. ‘Overwinter’ features nine new tracks, including the singles ‘Return Of The Sun’ and ‘Coprolite Tip’. Available digitally via all major outlets, the new long-player will also be released on limited CD with artwork by designer / photographer Pedr Browne. The limited edition bundle features a set of 10 original stereoscopic (‘Victorian 3D’) images, together with stereo specs through which to view them. This was inspired in part by a commission Grasscut received in 2018 to work with the Wessex Film and Sound Archive. This resulted in a film, to be released later in 2021, and inspired the track ‘The Archive’, with its sense of stored memories, hugely relevant to our current moment, decaying in the dark on tape and celluloid.
