James Johnson Jr., a highly acclaimed Gospel Music Stellar Award nominee and Grammy-nominated songwriter, has made a significant impact in the music industry. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, James's deep-rooted connection to the church, as the son of a Pastor, shaped his musical journey from an early age. He received an exceptional education from the Baltimore City Public School System, graduating from the prestigious Baltimore School for the Arts and further honing his skills at the renowned Peabody Conservatory.
James's passion for music led him to pursue higher education, earning a Master of Arts Degree in Music Business from Berklee College of Music and an MBA from Boston University. Currently, he is on a remarkable path, completing his Masters of Divinity Degree at the Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University, fueling his commitment to both music and ministry.
As the Pastor of Worship at First Sterling Baptist Church in Sterling, Virginia, James continues to inspire and uplift others through his musical talents. His versatility as a performer, musician, and producer has afforded him the privilege of sharing the stage with renowned artists such as Tyler Perry, Bill Cosby, Tye Tribbet, Troy Sneed, The Arkansas Gospel Mass Choir, Alvin Slaughter, Maurette Brown-Clark, Stephen Hurd, Jonathan McReynolds, Erica Campbell, Bishop Marvin Sapp, Pastor John P. Beyond his professional achievements, James finds immense joy in his personal life. He is married to the former Ms. Cathleen Abriam, and together they have a beautiful, blended family of five children: James III, Ayanna, Jada, Malaya, and Joseph.
