Hi all,
My initial thoughts (coming from a cranky 54 year old D3 football coach).
Defense- Not much to be concerned with here. Playoff caliber defense.
Special teams- solid
Offense:
WR group is strong
TE group is talented and deep
RB's solid
QB play has been erratic at best.
from my perspective we have a QB that isn't going through his progressions. It appears that he is forcing balls into two deep shell coverage(often to JJ). I would suspect that we have outlet options all over the field. Part of this could be the WR group running routes at the improper depth. If defenses are smart they will double JA and bracket JJ, forcing SD to get to his third/fourth read. Thats where the happy feet start. The O line from a pass protection perspective is weak.
Our play calling is very pass heavy. That doesn't mesh well with a sub par O line and a QB not seeing the field. IMO, the game needs to be simplified with Darnold and we need to start dictating our physicality with the run. KOC can and should do better. he is genius scheming routes but the play selection often times gets too cute
Let's continue stacking wins and get into the playoffs. With the QB turning the ball over at an alarming rate, we are destined for a first round exit.
