New To Hockey?

blazehockey.com

I've been working on some new advanced and basic analytic hockey models, most of which are proprietary. I don't have a post on my methodology yet because, if i'm doing that, I would probably have to post my thesis first. And that's a lot of posts.

Basically, I just want to simplify the game by providing models that are easily viewed and understandable to new viewers.

Who scores the most? (advanced model)
What is offsides? (basic model)
Why isn't it a 2 point goal when scored behind the blue line?
Why can't I see the puck when i'm watching on TV?

These are common questions that everyone new to hockey has. So let's answer these.

First let me get to who is the best. I've compiled all the numbers over the past five years. To make this easier to read. I made the chart only one dimension. It depicts total points. In simple terms, goals plus assists equals points. it's clear to see who the actual best is. I mean, I could say "look at cup wins" but Brandon Bollig has his name on the cup. That's not really fair to the greats in the sport like Claude Giroux or David Backes, or even the Sedin's.

Now that we've covered the greats in the game, let's go to offsides. Personally, this rule just needs to get out of the game if you want to increase scoring. I'm in full favor of cherry pickers. Is there an offsides in basketball? No. Do you see them calling for less scoring cause a center doesn't get back to defend and gets a long ball tossed to him for an easy two points? No. Basketball even has a rule that forces you into the offensive zone within 8 seconds or you have to give the ball to the other team. Hockey should do that. It will at least prevent players from hiding behind their own goal cause they are scared to play the game with the players that are out there.

This graph depicts offsides. if you are going left it is offisdes. if you are going right it's just poor stick placement. if you are "directionally challenged" hockey probably isn't your sport.

Since offsides deals with blue lines, if you shoot the puck from behind it., that needs to count as 2 goals. Or, at the very least, take away a goal from the other team for poor defense and goaltending. The NBA has a "3 pointer" in basketball when they make a long shot and they didn't use to. Encourage the great long shooters of the game like Dwight King, who plays for a team named after him, The LA Kings, to shoot more from distance. Watch this video to see what i am talking about

Lastly, in order to make hockey great again, bring back the glowing puck. When the glowing puck was introduced in 1996. Goals averaged per game was at 2.8. and goalies only saved .905 percent of the shots. Now, 10 years later without it, Goals per game has gone down to 2.5 and goalies are saving .915 percent of the shots. Obviously there is a 10% correlation between the demise of the glowing puck and goalies getting better.

Thanks, and again I am right in my analysis.
