Jesse Barfield slugged 241 home runs over a 12-year major league career that began with Toronto in 1981.

John Schneider was drafted by the Blue Jays in the 13th round of the 2002 MLB Draft from the University of Delaware.

I talked with Doug Davis this morning about several minor league players. Unfortunately my voice recorder ran out of battery almost at the start of the discussion so I have reproduced my notes of our discussion. I think I got it all. In this you will hear that Max Pentecost is out for the year, that Roemen Fields is working hard on his defense, that Conner Greene can be compared to Drew Hutchison, at least by me, and that Shane Dawson has been compared to mark Buehrle by more than me.

Doug Davis has joined us several times here on Da Box. We checked in with him last Thursday as he was trying to sort out all his short season rosters.

Dane Johnson is the Blue Jays minor league pitching coordinator and a frequent guest here at Da Box. Dane talks to us about instructional league and how some of the younger prospects are doing.

Clayton McCullough is the Blue Jays co-ordinator of instruction. This is a new position for the Jays. Previously McCullough has managed at several spots in the Jays system and he also spent the first half of 2013 as the Jays bullpen catcher. I caught up with McCullough last weekend in Lansing.

I spoke with Doug Davis, the Jays minor league field coordinator, over the weekend. Davis was in Vancouver visiting with the Canadians. As with my interview with Dane Johnson last week I had to take notes during the call and replicate them here as my recorder has gone missing.

Today I caught up with Dane as he was on the road and we discussed some of the pitchers in the system. I have lost my voice recorder so I just took notes of our conversation, reproduced below. Any errors are mine. I asked mainly about the lower levels of the system as we tend to know a lot more about the pitchers in AAA and AA.

I caught up with Doug Davis today as he arrived in Toronto for the Webster Award ceremonies this weekend.  Those of you at the Jays games today and tomorrow will see the Jays present end of year awards to scouts and players.
