It has been some 6-7 years from my last visit at kastoria where I visited the area around the city (nymphaion, prespes etc) but i neglected the city per se
this time i focused there and i discovered little gems such as the byzantine museum, the folklore museum aprt from the obvious (visiting the wonderful renovated local architecture mansions, the byzantine churches such as mavriotissa or koumpelidiki) and the captivating old Doltso quarter)
still in awe

The Byzantine churches are a must see - however they are locked and do not open regularly - apparently the way to visit them is to go to the Byzantine museum and request that someone opens them for you.

Walking around the lake is a must and going to the Palia Poli restaurant as well - it's in the old town near the lake and there wasn't anything we ordered that we didn't love. There are parking spaces near the lake and I would love to visit again.

Nice city that preserves a lot of traditional buildings, espescially in the beighbourhoods Ntoltso and Apozari. The Folklore Museum (Neratzis Aivazis Mansion) and the Tsiatsiapas Mansion are open to the public providing the opportunity to admire the interior of these buildings. Moreover, a visit to the Monastery of Mavriotissa is great also for admiring the nature and the great landscape of the lake. The exploration of the byzantine churches of the city and a visit to the nearby open air museum of Dispilio are also recommended - although the latter is a reconstruction and not the archaological site itself.

What a beautiful place!
What a beautiful place! When we stayed, the Autumn leaves were just appearing and the views across the lake were superb. This is such a beautiful, green and mountainous part of Greece, well worth exploring. Everyone in the town was friendly and welcoming and you get a real sense of what Greece was like before the highest excesses of tourism. It's wonderful just to stroll around the lake and we found some excellent restaurants serving very high quality meals and lots of local recipes and ingredients.

The hotel facilities are great. The room we've got was super comfortable, clean and airy. All the facilities were new, and the bed was super comfortable.
The only downside from our part, was the pool and the breakfast, which we felt could use more vegetables.
The location is great, super easy access to the lake, 4 minutes drive and you are there, with all the nice restaurants and lake side views. We've had a great time in Kastoria, and would love to come back!
The Doltso Hotel has the charm of a historical mansion; once we stepped in the property, we were stunned by its deco and atmosphere. Staff are super friendly and we absolutely loved our room despite the size is not very big. However, it was very comfortable, beautiful, and with all the amenities we needed. Location is great in a historical district in Kastoria; right next to the square and the lake. Parking is also very easy.
I would like to think the owner for providing good home to stay in and his care for every details 🌹
The place was amazing makes you feel at your own home, it was well-decorated and the furniture reflected the Greece family lifestyle clean like new.
Well located hotel with good (a bit dated) facilities. It’s about 15 minutes walk to the old center of Kastoria. There are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. They serve a nice breakfast with plenty of variety.
