Best things about London are the diversity of cultural...

Best things about London are the diversity of cultural attractions and the great variety of people it attracts. We stayed in the Fitzrovia district, a great convenient location for accessing the heart of London--bluue plaque spotters' heaven! Traveling in London is easy, once one matches the pace of commuters deploying their Oyster cards at the tube turnstiles. London remains one of the easiest places on earth in which to hail a taxi--even if one arrives on Christmas day. Only disappointment with London was the extent to which it has been taken over by brands and chains that infest all of the large cities of the western world. It takes a bit of work to get past them to find standalones--restaurants and shops that one will not find elsewhere--but it can be done. On the plus side, overall there's more interesting food on offer than once was the case.

Getting to see the changing of the horse-guards, strolling around St James' Park and admiring other famous landmarks in the area; however, for us, it was watching the incredible Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre!

My husband is a Londoner and knows the city pretty well. We love London; there are so many things to see. We live overseas now, so trips to London are few but we hope to do a lot more. Shame it is so expensive. We visited lots of historical old pubs and landmarks, but have hardly scratched the surface. The renovated Battersea Power Station was a must on this last trip, plus a river taxi.

Plan your trip carefully as there is too much to do in...

Plan your trip carefully as there is too much to do in London, Pick an area, research and stick to the plan. Book restaurants (for the evening) in advance, even if you see it on your walk around and book the day before. Set/early dining offers at posh restaurants are good value. I find using the tube very tiring, if you pick an area to visit, stay in a hotel there and then walk around you see more. Travelodge over Premier Inn any day. Theatre tickets are expensive, museums mostly free. Boat ride to Greenwich on the Thames is good value and you get the tour guide giving you info on the way. Christmas time is magical, just looking at the window displays is awesome and free. Go into the posh hotels to the bars, they are usually open later than the pubs, the ambience is lovely and yes whilst the drinks are expensive you feel, and are treated like, a VIP. When in a posh hotel (for a drink of course) always go to the loo, they can be an attraction too (just had my 1st experience of a Japanese toilet washing my bits!) Be polite, whilst everyone else is pushing/storming around doesn't mean you have to lower your standards to theirs. First time visit do the bus tours. When walking pick a scenic route, we did Westminster to the Tower of London along the river rather than a busy road. For a posh shop Fortum & Masons is the nicest, and their wine cellar bar is lovely. Drink the tap water and plenty of it, it's free (not as good as Yorkshire water though) Take time to relax (this is where the posh hotel bars come in) I hate rucksacks! The parks by Buckingham Palace are lovely, sit in them rather than Leicester Square/Covent Garden. Have quality luggage, there are a lot of cobbles so you need luggage wheels that can stand up to them.

London is an amazing mix of shopping, theatre, dining and history. We loved it, but did find it incredibly expensive, partly because of the AUD exchange rate. Favorite places were SOHO at night and the River cruise from Westminster to Greenwich was fantastic. London is really easy to get around, the tube is efficient and easy to navigate.

The room I was booked into was just amazing I’d recommend this place more than Travelodge/premier inn type hotels etc because this room is like a studio flat, so homely, close by to central London and what makes it that much more special is the staff and without them we wouldn’t have places like these so thank you for what you do here I appreciate and love the place and will definitely stay again and again
