Earthbound Misfit is the story of Jerry Foster, a pioneer in the field of news helicopter pilots. What began a routine flying job reporting traffic for a local TV station, soon became much more, as Jerry began reporting news stories as well. His former training as a paramedic for the AMES project (for which he was Chief pilot), and his association with several law enforcement agencies, also allowed him the opportunity to help with rescues and recoveries. Very often, instead of just reporting the story, Jerry Foster was the story. The book also covers Jerry’s early life, and the demons that followed him for years, as well as his life after 20 years in the TV business. It covers his fall from grace, and his years of reclusiveness, before venturing out into the world of Facebook and discovering that he was still loved by many.

Grew up watching him on tv saving people from flood waters, hovering inches above the water, flying around from school to school landing on football fields or wherever it looked like a helicopter could not land, he landed it and it looked seamless. Great read with so much more content and badass stories.

As far back as I can remember, Jerry Foster was a staple in my household and my life...everyday we'd watch him on tv with his live reports. Then poof, he was gone, and I never knew what happened after he disappeared from channel 3. This book fills in all the missing spots, his rise from humble beginnings to flying the beautiful Arizona skies, to what happened to him after channel 3. I was heartbroken to read some things, but oh so very happy to read that he's finally happy and content! If you grew up during his news reporter in the sky days, like I did, you probably remember his voice, and I found reading his book, in his words, which are very easy to read btw, I could hear him reading the book in that voice I'll never forget. Thank you Jerry for letting your fans know you're doing great now!!! From a HUGE FAN of yours, Loraine

My sister in law recommended this book. I don't usually like a book unless it's a technical publication. But, this book was excellent. I lived in the Valley of the Sun (Phoenix) from 1970-1985, and then in Flagstaff after that. Jerry Foster was everywhere. A really good guy and he served his community and state well. If you grew up with him this book will have you glued to it. You truly can't put it down. This man truly had the dream job , and was able to tour the state while working. It's to bad politics ruined everything for him. I have the utmost respect for this man. Read the book. I guarantee you will enjoy every page of it. Best read I have experienced in quite awhile. I was disappointed when I finished the book. I hated to see the story end. It was that good.

I am a friend of Jerry Foster and I was delighted to be able to obtain a copy of his life and times and to live through some of his adventures vicariously. As a literary work there is room for improvement but as a story of a guy who introduced the helicopter into broadcast journalism, who rescued people from flooded rivers and knew the size of his machine down to inches and put it safely into spaces where inches count, it is great reading, and all of it told in first person. Jerry's career had some marvelous highs and it also had some abysmal lows and this book tells it all. Highly recommended reading.

Just finished reading Jerry Foster's autobiography. I never write reviews but felt this book deserved one.

If you lived in Arizona in the 70s, 80s, or 90s (unless you lived under a rock) you knew Jerry Foster was the king of the skies. He captivated us with his live rescues, helping law enforcement chase down bad guys, and always being the first guy on the scene.

This book will give you an unprecedented view into the inner workings of the highly competitive TV news business. It is a truly fascinating story, starting from the very first primitive days of helicopter reporting (when Jerry literally created the industry), through today's hyper-competitive landscape.

It's also a very personal story. Jerry doesn't hold much back - he bares it all - which is what makes the book impossible to put down.

One of my favorite reads

Anyone who lived in Arizona during the '70's and '80's knows who Jerry Foster is. He is the daring, bigger-than-life helicopter news reporter who worked for Channel 10 and Channel 12, and was everywhere there was news. But he became more than just a reporter and was part of many search and rescues. He was a part of my every day life This book is his story - personal and vulnerable. It is also the inside story of the TV news industry of those days. It brought back so many memories for me. Jerry is a hero and an Arizona icon, and his book is a treasure.

I am a fan of Jerry Foster in his tv news days but the 'rest of the story' makes for a fascinating read.
