What does everybody think the trends will be in popular music during the 2010s? When 2019 rolls around, what do you think the music scene will look like? I expect to see more changes in musical style than we saw during the 2000s, which was pretty much just an evolution of 1990s trends. By 2019, Generation Z will have become the dominant consumers of popular culture and with that I believe will be new types of music. I also think the 2010s will see the decline of rap/hip hop though I have no idea yet as to what will replace it. Any thoughts?
I suppose any guess is as good as the other. I hope you are right that wrap and hippity hoppity noise will die. But I wonder. As America's schools continue to fail at the basic act of teaching we see high school grads more and more stupid each year. And wrap appeals to dummies because it is mindless senseless getto trash.
I see the popularity of country music continue to grow. Nothing else is growing at present. And if you play momentum, country music is the best bet because more and more listeners are going country, including many die hard rockers.
One thing is for sure. The great music will not be back in the next 10 years.

Rap isn't going anywhere.
I'm hoping that by 2012 we'll see the end of this watered-down, pop/rock Hip-Hop&RnB, and we'll get the chance to witness the resurgence of good black music. Can't speak for the other genres.
Music may improve, but it will never be the same as internet downloading is taking the fun music.
I also think we will see a lot of influences from the 90s. Some songs are already showing it.

Good point about true black music. There's a few now like Alexis P. Suter. She is black and everybody else in the band is white, but it is strong gospel-soul tinged stuff. WDIY has given the band a big lift by playing their music and having them play here locally a few times. Thanks to WDIY the hipsters in this area are turned onto the Alexis P. Suter band.
I would hope that it would be less overproduction in the studios and more of a trend towards 'rawness' in talent for all genres.
An honoring more of the past and origins of music across all genres rather than a continuation of the watered down music scenes we have now.
It's so much an empty air sculpture color spectrum now...something is bound to happen...shame as it will pass as yesterdays news too soon...or will it???
Being a guitar player myself, you know what I'm going to say. I think Blues/Rock is making a big comeback. With artists like Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jonny Lang and Joe Bonamassa in the lead. They are setting the bar for what highly skilled guitarists should sound like. Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Billy Gibbons, Angus and Malcolm Young would be proud and are for these younger guitarists. Don't forget AC/DC is still making albums as well as ZZ Top. My two cents worth. Rugged
