Abstract

Selection of the proper interface between code generation and the analysis steps which preceed it is an engineering decision which balances two properties of the compilation:

  1. a.

    Most of the structure of the program is determined solely by the source language.

  2. b.

    Most of the representational details are determined solely by the target machine.
