Vortex (Movie)
From Transformers Wiki
The name or term "Vortex" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Vortex (disambiguation). |
- Vortex is a Decepticon from the movie continuity family.
Vortex is the resident interrogator of the Combaticons. As an aerial soldier, he is cruel, merciless, and unrelenting in his attacks. But it's when he gets his hands on captive Autobots that he really gets nasty. Once they're in his clutches, he takes a passionate, sadistic glee in brutally cutting them apart. Actually questioning them is a secondary concern.[1]
Sometimes, he merges with his fellow Combaticons into the mighty Bruticus Maximus.

Toys
Revenge of the Fallen
- Bruticus Maximus (2009)
- Accessories: Quad blaster (hand/foot), Decepticon-type energon star
- Revenge of the Fallen Vortex is a redeco of Energon Blackout and Stormcloud, transforming into an assault helicopter somewhat similar to an AH-1 Cobra. He was available with the Revenge of the Fallen Bruticus Maximus giftset, and when combined with the other Combaticons, Vortex forms a limb. "V-1" is tampographed on the right side of his cockpit.
- The mold was also redecoed into Classics Topspin and Revenge of the Fallen Swindle. Revenge of the Fallen Vortex and Swindle were also sold in the Universe line as Generation 1 Vortex and Swindle. Another planned redeco, movie Reverb, was canceled.
Dark of the Moon
- ID number: DD06
- Accessories: MechTech Cannon/"Glue Machine Gun"
- Available only in the TakaraTomy Dark of the Moon toyline, Vortex is a retool and redeco of Transformers Tomahawk, transforming into a slightly futuristic strike helicopter, sporting an amalgamation of features from both the Eurocopter Tiger and the ADH-02 Hellhound attack helicopter from Patlabor. He has a new head and a retool of Roadbuster's MechTech weapon, replacing the saw blades with two halves of a "Glue Machine Gun" barrel. In robot mode, he is armed with "snapping pincers" on his right forearm. While he does not come with Tomahawk's missile launchers, he still has the numerous c joint compatible bars for attaching weapons to. Vortex also features a new 5 mm post-hole for his MechTech weapon on the swiveling "camera" underneath his vehicle mode cockpit. Like other TakaraTomy-only redecos, his paint details are heavily based off the original use of the mold.
- The original version of this mold (but with Vortex's head) was also used to make Timelines Spinister, and was retooled to make Generations Springer.
Notes
- Vortex was not named in The Reign of Starscream; his name is given in the story commentary in the trade paperback edition of the series, where writer Chris Mowry explains that the character was called such in the script.
- Like several characters in the live-action film continuity family, the various incarnations of Vortex recorded here were developed independently of each other, but share the same article for simplicity and because they all share the same origin in Generation 1 Vortex.
- Vortex's Head in 'Reign Of Starscream' is heavily based on a piece of concept art made for Blackout.
- In the earliest drafts of the first movie's script, Blackout was named "Vortex".[2][3]
