New Blog, and a follow up to last post

Hey guys, Drew back here, before I talk about last post, I just wanted to advertise for my new blog, Top Lists on the Mountain Top, which can be found here. This blog is a countdown list blog, and the 1st countdown will be the Top 50 Most Influential Musicians of All Time! So please check out the blog, the beginning of the countdown will start soon. I am truly a fan of new music, whether its hip hop/rap, rock, pop, or R&B, I always keep myself in the music no matter what.

Anyway, I wanted to follow up on last post a little bit. Especially after I read the huge comment from Offy defending his team. First off I want to say sorry for acting jerkish about that, I was just really excited that I thought I sniped out a couple players, especially on the Red Sox. Since nothing has happened with them, and a Red Sox employee made this list and sniped out Yankee players consistently, I wanted to proove that my team wasn't the only one cheating. Of course, the Rangers and Athletics are also up there (especially with Canseco in town, sorry Mario), but there is NO proof at all whether these Yankees caught used them while on the team. Here is a list of who is on and where they used them (apparently):

Alex Rodriguez: Used while on the Texas Rangers, caught in 2003.
Andy Pettitte: Caught using HGH while on the Houston Astros in between his 2 Yankee stints, reportedly to heal an injury.
Roger Clemens: Used while on Blue Jays, although hasn't admitted, this is close enough:

Jason Giambi: I don't remember off hand, but I'm pretty sure he used while on the A's.

So, really, none of the Yankees caught were caught while on the Yankees. You never know though, the only tests shown are from 2003 and that time stint. Some of them may have used with the Yankees, I'll admit. But Offy, that was the one part I saw that really stuck out in that comment, and I wanted to address it. Maybe they didn't say Ortiz and Manny used steroids, but they did fail the test, obviously meaning that they used. That's all I got with me right now. See Ya!

Check out this contest!

Spot-On Accuracy!!!

If you don't know why I said this check out this link and find out:
http://drewsbbcards.blogspot.com/2009/06/steroids-thoughts.html#comments

Alright guys, I don't wanna brag but I will say this: I WAS RIGHT!!!

david-ortiz-1.jpg image by nyyankees4

Please tell me I wasn't right!

Oh wait, hmmm, him too:

http://image.examiner.com/images/blog/wysiwyg/image/MannyRamirez(7).jpg

Now once they reveal that Manny supported steroids to Ortiz my story before is exactly the news. If you don't know what I'm saying, last month I posted an entry saying how Manny and Ortiz (I thought) used roids and my entire theory about it. Apparently today in the New York Times writer Michael Schmidt reported that Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz were caught using steroids in 2003. I said quote: "Manny's HGH he used is a post steroid substance, something only players use after steroids. My guess is that he has used a steroid or two before, maybe even in Cleveland, but most likely in Boston." Spot On, Spot On.

Here is what I said with Ortiz:

"Now, David Ortiz lifetime as a Twin, hit 58 home runs in 6 seasons, with 238 runs batted with 393 hits total. The next year he was dealt to the Red Sox, with Manny already on the team, and he finished 5th in MVP voting (2003). He went on to finish in the top 5 in MVP voting 5 years in a row starting in 2003, and the next year he started a streak of All Star Games played until this point, which doesn't look good for Papi."

"Ortiz's home run totals went from 20 in 2002, to 31 in 2003, to 41 in 2004, to 47 in 2005, and to 54 in 2006! His weight has stayed the same throughout his career at 230, but may not mean anything in the long run. When Manny left Boston, in 2008, Ortiz struggled. I can't find his 2nd half stats from last year, but lets say that he hit 20 home runs total, and his batting average dropped 68 points! This year, Ortiz has 6 home runs and a current .213 batting average, and only 30 RBI!"

Nuff Said. Leave comments, especially you Offy, I know you'll find a way to defend this. I'm excited about this. This is incredible. Ciao!

Thank you Indians!!!!

Dan from Saints of the Cheap Seats must be mad, but I'm happy. Cliff Lee is now a Philadelphia Phillie. Lee is 7-9 this year, and has pitched really well, just, the Indians blow every game. There is a pro and con on this move in my situation:

Pro:
Lee is my ace on my fantasy baseball team. He's pitched so well this year, but the record doesn't show it. Put him on the reigning champion 1st place Philadelphia Phillies and I climb the standings in my league.

Con:
This gets Philadelphia out of the chase for Roy Halladay. I know the Yankees don't want him, but the Red Sox do and they sound like one of the only teams that would want him. It's bad enough that he pitches in the same division as my favorite team, but on my arch rival team! I don't know if this move helped or not. Post your comments on your response, and please vote on the brand spanking new poll.

I may start a new blog on Top 100, 50, 10 whatever lists. I made the order for the Top 50 Most Influencial Musicians of All Time. Imagine who the winner is. Keep reading, don't stop til' you get enough. No this isn't a superstition. Who will win? I KNOW!!!

Just a random update...

Hey guys, Drew back here, as you may have noticed, I haven't posted an overload of stuff lately. Last month I posted 66 times, and this month I have 50 posts, with 3 days left. I've definitely been around, especially working out trades and e-mailing some bloggers. But I have still been busy. Here is whats going on lately:

Well to start last week and this week I have been going to "Al Hammell Baseball Camp" as a C.I.T. This week the camp is at Dutchess Stadium, where the Hudson Valley Renegades play. It has been a lot of work, especially because each week had 1 C.I.T. that did no work at all. Well, included in the price we pay to be slaves for him, are tickets to last nights game against the Staten Island Yankees. There was some bad weather, so we only stayed a couple innings. After e-mailing Ross from Sport Card Info., I found out that there were no big name players on either team. C'mon, I'm not missing out on another Longoria or Josh Hamilton! In the pregame though, we got to go on the field for a little ceremony thing, and a couple pitchers (relief I assume) were standing there, and I had a fat Sharpie in my pocket and a useless camp hat, so this is what I did:

If you have a problem with counting, you may not know that there are 3 autographs on that hat. One is Glenn Gibson, one is Aaron Dott, and one is Kyle Ayers. All 3 are pitchers, and you can see more about them on the links. Glenn Gibson is the son of former Yankee pitcher Paul Gibson, and apparantly Dott pitched a no-hitter against the Green Bay Bullfrogs on June 17th, 2008. Huh, interesting stuff there, although they probably all won't make it anywhere.

So, before I say bye bye for now, I want to promote the future 2009 Album of the Year:

http://www.getmp3now.info/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/daughtry-leave-this-town-2009-300x300.png
Daughtry: "Leave This Town" CD
This album is great, almost every song is hard rock upbeat, please check this out if you are interested in this type of music, it's just plain awesome.

Also, I started working on the Top 50 Greatest Artist list, and that should start sometime next week on my other blog. See Ya!

2009 Topps Allen & Ginter Box Review Part 2!

Time to hand in your tests class! Class dismissed! Alright, before I grade these papers, I need to grade 2009 Topps Allen & Ginter. Here we go:

Design: This is by far the best product design so far this year. At 1st I didn't like the base cards, but when I opened my 1st packs and looked at the 1st card, I knew I was in for a long ride. The base cards look better than ever, and the inserts look great too! I wasn't a huge fan of the National Pride inserts though, they got boring after 5 packs. But all of the minis looked great, especially the black borders, with the great design, more alive than the black square boring border. The hits look really good too, especially the frames, which I have to say is the best frame yet. Some people say to stop making the frames and change it up, but what would Allen & Ginter be like without them. Let's go back to 1887 and find out! OK, I don't have a time machine, but I will say that these cards are the best in show. Compared to what? I have no idea! Grade: A (A+ if not for the stupid national prides!)

Price: This part contains the one and only problem with Ginter, it is very expensive and won't pay up your money. Sure it's a fun half an hour busting 24 packs, but at around $80 a pop is not worth it. I may get a 2nd box (I made over $500 on b-day cash), but I'm not sure if I should wait until the price drops to like what 08 A&G is now. Overall the price is a little too steep for me to consistently buy. Grade: C+

Hits: Another small problem with this product, these are the reason nobody gets their money back unless they pull something great. Come on, Rocco Baldelli has 2 DIFFERENT RELICS in this product!!! By the way, I've been finding ways to push my score for Gint-A-Cuffs up and here's one way, the Soriano bat card is a short printed relic and is 12 instead of 8. Anyway, the hits are nice but next year, please include 4 or 5 for that price! I pulled a Soriano Bat, Longoria jersey, and a Rich Hill autograph, and I thought I had a good box, but I'm pretty sure I didn't make $40 back from that box! Grade: B-

Overall: Well, this product is the best one out there so far, but hopefully Goodwin steals the show in the end. Everything looked fantastic and was a ton of fun to break, although even with a good box I coudn't pay for it. Next year my only suggestion is to either: lower the price because it's naughty not nice, or include 1 or 2 more hits. Overall I had a lot of fun breaking it, thanks to Mark and Beardy for running Gint-A-Cuffs, I think it was a great idea for you guys to do something like this, it really brought us closer. Overall Grade: A

Leave a comment and let me know what you think about the product, and DON'T VOTE FOR OREOS!

To see part 1 of my box, click here.

Will the EVIL OREOS Win it???

No, we can't let them win. Come on, we need a comeback in this poll. 17 votes, that means 11 of my subscribers didn't vote yet, but it does mean that some of them didn't vote either. VOTE VOTE VOTE! Just, not for Oreos.

Beardy has been wiped out from all these things, so he'll think about and he said we'll talk about it in a month or so. If he doesn't decide to do it, I'll pick a name out of a hat to assist me in this contest. Thanks

Congrats to Mark Buehrle!

Yeah, I know, you'll be reading this on every single other blog but congrats to Mark Buehrle for throwing a perfect game! Dewayne Wise made an incredible catch leaping at the wall to save the game, and Mark sealed it off with a perfect game, the 18th in MLB history!

*I Love this picture*

Buerhle has already thrown a no-hitter a few years ago, and he is 11-3 this year. Quietly he is having a career year.

Old Timer's Day Video Recap

Tigers vs. Yankees July 19th 2009 Old Timer's Day Ceremony

Final Score:
Tigers- 1
Yanks- 2

It was an incredible way to start it off. I walked into Yankee Stadium, and was lost in the pride of the Yankees. I turn and look and see the Yankee photos posted up on the walls, of all of the legends. My dad & I had to look around. We really wanted to see Monument Park or the Museum, but it was too late, the lines were already filled. "We'll go another time," I said, after we left the museum line. But then, along the way to our seats was Monument Park waiting for us. So we got in line, and about 5 minutes in at 11:45, the ceremony for Old Timer's Day began, with John Sterling and Michael Kay announcing the Old Timer's one by one. We took a long rush to our seats, finally there...

We met the father/son combo sitting next to us, and enjoyed watching legends like Whitey Ford, Don Larsen, Reggie Jackson, Graig Nettles, Goose Gossage, Mike Mussina, & Yogi Berra step out of the dugout. After the nice ceremony, the announcers had Thurman Munson's wife and Bobby Murcer's wife come out and throw the 1st pitch. Next, the old timers played the game, the Clippers vs. the Bombers. Mike Mussina started the game giving up 4 straight hits, and in an interview with Kimberly Jones (YES), he said by seeing that that he can't pitch anymore and is happy retired. I watched Goose & Coney pitch a little, then Doc Gooden on the other team. Doc really seemed to put on some weight recently. Ron Guidry also pitched in the game, and hit, and played left field. Gene Michael hit the ball once and started running, and immediately after he started, his shoe flew off his foot. Mickey Rivers hit one in the gap at one point, and after reaching 1st already, as the ball is being thrown in, he picked up speed and hustled (fast for an old fast guy) to 2nd for a double. The game would eventually end in a Clippers win (who cares???). Some things I noticed about this event was:

- There were not nearly as many legends as usual.
- Reggie Jackson for some reason didn't play in the game while Mickey Rivers, Bucky Dent, and others from his time played.
- Some Yankee employees missing: Paul O'Neeil and Tino Martinez
- Darryl Strawberry didn't show up along with Dave Winfield.

Anyway, Dad and I got our food in between the ceremony and game time. I got the chicken fingers with some cheesy fries on the side and a Pepsi. The food was really good, some of the best chicken fingers I've ever had. But it was expensive, that's for sure, but we need to overpay A-Rod, Jeter, Sabathia, and others. So we waited for the game, and eventually, it began.

The pitching matchup that day happened to be Joba Chamberlain vs. Edwin Jackson. Jackson so far this year is 7-5 with a 2.52 ERA and around 100 strikeouts. He made his 1st career all star team, the year after he was dealt to the Tigers in exchange for Matt Joyce, a promising young outfielder. The Rays could use Jackson right now. As for Joba, he has been struggling big time this year, but said he looks at the season as 2 seasons and hopes to regain his edge. I thought it would be a great pitching matchup and it looked to be a good game. Both teams have been successful this year, and the Yankees were looking to sweep the Tigers.

*That wasn't my picture*

So Joba started off well, but walks really killed him. He only gave up 2 hits into the 4th inning but it seemed like more with the consistent 1 walk per inning deal. Joba did give up a shot though in the top of the 4th, serving up a homer to right fielder Clete Thomas, his 6th of the year. In the bottom of the inning though the Yanks fired back, with an A-Rod solo HR bringing them back into the game. Some great pitching went on, but in the bottom of the 6th, Mark Teixeira hit his 23rd home run of the year, and the score was 2-1 Yanks. When Joba left the game in the middle of the 7th inning due to a high pitch count, he only gave up 3 hits, gave up 1 run, and struck out 8. Truly one of his best performances of the year. Phil Coke came in relief for the end of that inning, and Phil Hughes pitched the 8th. Rivera came in for the 9th, and remarkably, this was the 1st time I've ever seen him pitch live. His entrance was awesome, and the fans went crazy. He picked up the 1st two outs, and then walked a batter. He got Gerald Laird to ground out to end the game, and the Yankees won by a score of 2-1.

Overall, it was a really exciting game, and I had a blast. I got a plaque with a 2009 Topps card of Joba to add in my room, along with a 2009 Old Timers Day shirt and the 2009 Yankees Yearbook. The new stadium is really nice, and it shows the pride of the pinstripes really well.

Let me know if you want any of the pictures in the slideshow. Make sure you check out the slideshow if you didn't already, it shows all the pictures I took. I took some more videos but they take forever to load so I just posted these two. I hope you enjoyed this stuff, please let me know if you want me to change things around for next time, by comment or e-mail (yanks1996wsc@gmail.com). Please subscribe to the blog if you haven't already, and see ya later!

So, that 2nd pack was really good, but still pretty disappointed about the 1st one. I did pull an awesome Burnett for the Yankee PC, but that was a boring one. So, Packs 17 & 18 coming soon to drewscards!

I'm Back! Again!

Hey guys, sorry I haven't posted in a while. Here's what I did while I was gone:

- I went to Old Timers Day yesterday and had a blast. The new Yankee Stadium is beautiful, and I can't wait to post some pictures and videos!

- I started up my new e-mail and finished off a trade with foul bunt, should be coming soon.

- I am going to former minor leaguer Al Hammell's, who was my 6th grade science teachers, baseball camp as a C.I.T. (Counselor in Training). My parents are spending money to get me out of the class and do labor for my former science teacher. That's just plain cruelty!

Anyway, I'm glad to be back, especially seeing all the red ink autos out of Ginter! (here and here) I know for a fact that Gint-A-Cuffs champ will not be me, so I'm planning to have fun with it.

Another fun project I've been thinking about lately is making a blog with a top 100 countdown of the most influencial musicians since around 1940 or so. So, please, when I get to that (IF I get to that I should say), please check that out and see where your favorite pans out.

So, packs 15 & 16 for Gint-A-Cuffs are coming up next. I'm going to my sister's swim lessons later so I will do the next 2 packs there with Joemama. See Ya!

New E-Mail

This morning I'm leaving early for the Yankee game I mentioned I'm going to, so before I leave I want you to know my new e-mail. I made a big mistake sending "Optimum Online" account information after "Optimum" said I may lose my account because of a big problem going around. Turns out that when they fixed my e-mail and I could log in to it again, from 5 days of mail I got 334 MESSAGES! Only 5 I Needed, so yeah, my new e-mail account I made this morning is yanks96wsc@gmail.com. Sorry about showing off the ring on my birth year! If you want to trade, remember this new e-mail!

HUGE PC ADDITIONS!!!

So, there I was, in my huge front yard, raking a ton of grass clippings my dad left for me after he mowed. After hours of labor, I eventually finished, and when I walked into the door, my parents thanked me and my dad gave me a couple cards. Here they are (they are SWEET!)

1984 Topps Darryl Strawberry Rookie Card
This is a really good card to have. Just imagine how much better a career he would have without all the off the field issues. This guy is a must have for any Yankee or Met collector.

1984 Topps Don Mattingly Rookie Card
WOW! So this was a card I really wanted, and now I have it. This is definitely a Yankee fan must have, and truly a card that belongs in the baseball card hall of fame!

2003 Upper Deck Yankee Signature Series Tommy Henrich
Well, this guy could have been a popular player if it wasn't for Dimaggio, and when you look at his stats, you can say he was a good player. Lifetime Henrich hit a .282 batting average with 183 home runs, and 795 RBI. He led the AL in triples twice too and won 4 championships.

1963 Topps World Series Game 3 "Maris Sparks Yankee Rally"
This card is awesome. It doesn't book for too much, but it features Roger Maris in a World Series game against the Giants in which he was 1-3 with a run scored. I really, really like this card!

So, all in all, thanks to dad for giving me these great cards!

Also, I mentioned earlier today that I got some stuff from my friends. I got the 2009 Yankees team set, and the 2008 Yankee Stadium Legacy Commerative Blue Card set, and also, my friend Mike gave me this awesome card:

1983 Donruss Tony Gwynn Rookie Card
This is an amazing card! I can't believe all in a little time I got rookie cards of Gossage, Eckerlsey, Gwynn, Strawberry, and Mattingly! Unbelievable! Thanks Mike and Matt, and see ya!

Lastly, tomorrow I will be gone, because my dad and I are going to the Yankee game tomorrow. It is also Old Timers Day, so I'll try to get some great pictures and enjoy it as much as I can. So I'll see you in a while!
