The 1980 NCAA basketball championship game featured one of the highest-flying teams to ever grace a basketball court. The team was led by 'Doctor Dunkenstein' himself: Darrell Griffith. Perhaps this seems old hat nowdays, but back then it was quite a novelty to have a dunking machine for a team. Yet, that's exactly what Denny Crum had assembled at U of L and it paid huge dividends for him, the team, the school, and the city of Louisville. Houston attempted to mimic the idea in 1983 with 'Phi Slamma Jamma', but a guy named Jim Valvano grounded their aerial attack with an NC State team that simply played with heart. The story in 1980, though, was U of L, and their aerial antics were unstoppable. In the end they cut down the nets and celebrated a championship. Denny would produce yet another championship team in 1986. Those were the glory years for Louisville, Kentucky!

This was a Christmas gift item and went over very well. I knew this UofL lover would have the 2013 championship game...and probably the 1986 game, but he was missing the '80 TItle so this was a great item!

I love to relive the first championship of UofL. If you are a fan this is for you.

One of the best games in college history. This dvd completed my collection. Now i have every championship game from 1966 to 2000.

I had forgotten how bad the tv picture was in 1980 and then the video stopped playing completely. I should have returned it but for the low price it was too much hassle.

I have rated this a three for the effort made to make this game available on DVD. The problem isn't the game but the quality. I purchased under the assumption that the game had been copied for NBC's archives. This doesn't appear to be the case. Literally! The quality lends one to believe that this game was drawn from someone's VHS or BETA tape. The tracking lines and other little "blips" common with videotape playback seem to support this belief. Don't misunderstand, the game is watchable. It just wasn't the professional production that I thought was being purchased.
