Ungrateful Fans?

?Zach Parise was drafted by the Devils.  This means he was told that if he wanted to play in the NHL, it would have to be in NJ.  This was the deal negotiated by players before him.  The Devils didn't try to extend their superstar, like most other star players across the league  are.  They let him walk to free agency (they were obviously scared of his penultimate season where he lost almost the whole season to injury; remember, loyalty is a one-way street as the team is only loyal to its players as long as the player can produce; so they weren't going to offer him a deal until they knew how well he could still play).

Once his obligatory service was completed, with no prior offer from his current team, he ended his NJ career as captain of the team, after having taken the team to the Stanley Cup.  You'd think he did enough for NJ.  Both sides basically said goodbye to each other.

So, his hometown team, Minnesota Wild, came calling with a 98MM$ offer.  I imagine most people in that position, born and raised in a city, gone for several years, with a chance to go back to that city, and with 98MM$ guaranteed, would take it.

However, in NJ....

This is why I am against all the booing of players who leave, be it those who leave ungracefully like Lebron, or those who leave with no offer in hand, like Larry Walker.  You don't own them, and they don't owe you.  They've given what they can while they were there, and you should be grateful for what you got.
