Imperfect HOF ballot

?As a reminder, the current scoring system looks like this (which is based on the view of the Straight Arrow readers):

14 points for each of: Bonds, Maddux, Clemens

12: Fr Thomas

9: Piazza, Bagwell, Raines

7: Biggio, Glavine

That’s 95 for nine guys.

5: Trammell, Schilling, Mussina, Edgar, McGwire

Any of those guys gives you 100.

3: La Walker, Sosa, Kent

2: Palmeiro, McGriff

1: Mattingly, Morris, Alou, Lee Smith, Lu Gonzalez, Kenny Rogers

Voting for anyone else, or leaving a blank spot:

-1 for 1st

-3 for 2nd

-5 for 3rd

...

-19 for 10th

That’s a total of -100 if you hand in a blank ballot.

You would have a hard time handing in a ballot with less than 80 points.  That's basically the passing grade, if you hand in a ballot with 80 points.  If it's less than that, either you don't know what you are doing, or, you have such strong views against some players (i.e., PED-based), that this scoring system won't make any sense to you.  In that case, come up with your own scoring system.

So, the worst ballot is whatever voter hands in a blank ballot (-100 points).  Our old blogger-buddy Murray Chass comes in at 14 points for Maddux, 7 for Glavine, 12 for Frank Thomas and 1 for Jack Morris, for a total of 34.  But leaving the six blank spots is -36, for a total score of -2 points.

Dan Shaunessy of the Boston Globe votes for the same 4 of Chass, plus Schilling.  That's 39 points for the 5 guys, and -25 for leaving 5 open spots, for a total of 14 points.

Feel free to point out other voters whose views is not shared at all by the Straight Arrow readers.
