The Royal Philatelic Society of New Zealand is an international society for collectors of the postage stamps and postal history of New Zealand and her Dependencies. The Society was formed in 1888 by stamp collectors based in Wellington, New Zealand as The Philatelic Society of New Zealand. The Royal prefix was granted in 1946, and since then the Patron of the Society has been the Governor-General of New Zealand or the Governor-General's spouse. A number of members have been appointed to the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists.
