- The Gonzaga Collection or Celeste Gallery (la Celeste Galeria) was the large collection of artworks commissioned and acquired by the House of Gonzaga in Mantua, Italy, exhibited for a time in the Palazzo Ducale, the Palazzo Te, the Palazzo San Sebastiano and other buildings in Mantua and elsewhere. The Gonzagas were inspired by the wunderkammer style of collecting practised by the princes of Bavaria, with Isabella d'Este in particular creating a noted private 'studiolo'. They set an example for other European courts, particularly in their patronage of contemporary artists, whilst their collecting increased the international profile of Mantua, a relatively small state. It reached its peak under Vincenzo I Gonzaga and his son Ferdinando, before the family's decline led to major losses from the collection, such as the long negotiations from 1625 onwards with Charles I of Great Britain, mediated by two members of the Whitehall Group - the Flemish art dealer Daniel Nys and Nicholas Lanier, Master of the King's Music. These culminated in 1627 with most of the Gonzaga collections being sent to London. This ensured their preservation, unlike the artworks still in Mantua when the city was sacked in 1630. Its works are now split between museums and private collections across the world, as shown by the 2002-2003 exhibition Gonzaga. La Celeste Galeria. Il Museo dei Duchi di Mantova at the Palazzo Te and Palazzo Ducale, which included around ninety paintings from the total of approximately 2000 originally in the collection. - La Collection Gonzague ou Galerie Céleste (Celeste Galeria) est une collection d'œuvres d'art commandées et acquises par la Maison de Gonzague à Mantoue, en Italie, et exposées à différents endroits, dont Palais ducal de Mantoue, le Palais du Te, le Palazzo San Sebastiano. Inspirés par les cabinets de curiosités qu'on retrouvait chez les princes de Bavière, en particulier chez Isabella d'Este et son «studiolo» privé, les Gonzague lancent leur propre collection. Par leur patronage d'artistes, ils donnent ainsi l'exemple à d'autres juridictions européennes tout en accroissant la renommée de Mantoue, un État relativement petit. La collection atteint son apogée sous Vincenzo I Gonzaga et son fils Ferdinando avant que le déclin de la famille ne décime la collection, comme à la suite des négociations à partir de 1625 avec Charles Ier de Grande-Bretagne, sous la médiation du marchand d'art flamand Daniel Nys . En 1627, la majorité de la collection est envoyée à Londres afin de garantir sa conservation et avant de subir le sort d'autres œuvres d'art qui se trouvaient encore à Mantoue lors du pillage de la ville en 1630. - Le collezioni Gonzaga o la Celeste Galeria sono storicamente le cospicue raccolte di opere d'arte commissionate e appartenute alla dinastia dei Gonzaga, un tempo esposte in Palazzo Ducale, in Palazzo Te, in Palazzo San Sebastiano e in altri edifici di Mantova e dintorni. Attualmente le opere d'arte appartenute ai Gonzaga sono disperse nei musei (e collezioni private) di tutto il mondo. Questa diaspora fu evocata dalla mostra Gonzaga. La Celeste Galeria. Il Museo dei Duchi di Mantova che dal 2 settembre 2002 al 12 gennaio 2003 riportò nei palazzi Te e Ducale una selezione di novanta degli oltre duemila dipinti appartenuti ai Gonzaga (oltre a bronzi, armi, gioie, disegni, ecc.). Insieme alle opere pittoriche i signori di Mantova portarono nei palazzi ducali il meglio in materia di oreficeria, pietre preziose e mirabilia. Tra queste il Cammeo Gonzaga che dal 12 ottobre 2008 all'11 gennaio 2009 fu il pezzo più pregiato della mostra organizzata nell'Orangerie in Palazzo Te, Il Cammeo Gonzaga - Arti preziose alla corte di Mantova, che idealmente proseguiva l'esposizione della "Celeste Galeria".
