- Henry "Hen" Pearce (7 May 1777, in Bristol – 30 April 1809, at St. Martin's Lane, London) was an English bare-knuckle prizefighter who fought under the London Prize Ring rules and was the recognised English Champion from 1804 until his retirement due to ill health in 1807. Pearce was known as "The Game Chicken", a nickname probably derived from his habit of signing his name "Hen" instead of Henry. He was reckoned a fast, skillful boxer who hit hard with both fists. On 6 December 1805, Pearce defeated Jem Belcher in a Championship decider (a fight reported in Pierce Egan's first volume of Boxiana). He was inducted into the Ring Boxing Hall of Fame in 1987 and the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1993. (en)

Pugile molto forte, anche se non possedeva la tecnica e l'abilità del suo predecessore Jem Belcher. Nacque a Bristol, città dove cominciò a combattere ed acquisire esperienza, per poi trasferirsi a Londra. Nella capitale Henry disputò i primi incontri importanti e dimostrò le sue capacità vincendo contro Jack Firley. Con il titolo in pugno decise di aiutare il suo amico John Gully, finito in carcere per non aver pagato i debiti. Pearce trovò un ottimo sponsor per l'incontro, i soldi ricavati servirono per pagare una parte dei debiti di Gully, tanto da permettergli di uscire di prigione. Gully e Perce si incontrarono di nuovo in una sfida pubblica ad Hailsham in una memorabile sfida terminata dopo 1 ora e 17 minuti e di fronte a una folla immensa. Perace dominò l'inizio mandando al tappeto Gully in ognuno dei sette round iniziali. Dal 18º al 33º round nessuno dei due prese il sopravvento, nonostante si stassero aprendo alcune ferite sul volto dei due pugili. Alla fine Gully fu costretto ad abbandonare il match a causa del continuo sanguinamento delle sue ferite. Nel 1805 Henry Pearce venne acclamato campione d'inghilterra perché Jem Belcher, rimasto cieco ad un occhio, non si rese disponibile per mettere in discussione il titolo.I due si incontrarono lo stesso anno per volontà di Belcher. La sfida durò 18 riprese e volse a favore di Pearce che divenne di diritto campione d'Inghilterra. Pearce decise di non combattere più, tornò a vivere una campagna. Karierę bokserską rozpoczął w Bristolu a pierwszą udokumentowaną walkę stoczył w 1803 w Londynie. Do historii przeszła jego walka z rozegrana w Hailsham 8 października 1805. Trwała 77 minut. Od 33 rundy przewagę uzyskał Pearce i zakończył ją zwycięsko w 64 rundzie, kiedy Gully nie był w stanie kontynuować pojedynku. Od roku 1804 uważał się za mistrza Anglii jednak dopiero 6 grudnia 1805 stoczył pojedynek z Jemem Belcherem powszechnie uważanym za mistrza. Zwyciężył po 35 minutach w 18 rundzie potwiedzając swoją supremację. W obronie tytułu miał 30 sierpnia 1807 spotkać się ponownie z Johnem Gully jednak ze względu na kłopoty zdrowotne musiał ją odwołać. Problemy te zmusiły go do rezygnacji w 1807 z tytułu i stały się powodem przedwczesnej śmierci w wieku 31 lat. W roku 1993 został przyjęty do Międzynarodowej Bokserskiej Galerii Sław. (pl)
