The Anglo-Dutch Slave Trade Treaty (Dutch: Brits-Nederlands verdrag ter wering van de slavenhandel) was a treaty signed between the United Kingdom and the Kingdom of the Netherlands signed on 4 May 1818, aimed at preventing slave trade carried out through Dutch vessels. The treaty allowed both parties to search vessels of the other for on-board slaves. Among other things, the treaty established two Mixed Commission Courts, one with a seat in Freetown, Sierra Leone and another in Paramaribo, Suriname, which had the power to sentence slavers.

Il trattato permise a entrambe le parti di cercare e bloccare come illegali quei vascelli che trasportassero a bordo degli schiavi. Tra le altre cose, il trattato stabilì due tribunali misti, uno con sede a Freetown, in Sierra Leone e l'altro a Paramaribo, nel Suriname, col potere di giudicare gli schiavisti. Il trattato venne emendato con l'aggiunta di ulteriori articoli il 31 dicembre 1822, il 25 gennaio 1823, il 7 febbraio 1837 ed il 31 agosto 1848. (it)
  • Het Brits-Nederlandse verdrag ter wering van de slavenhandel werd op 4 mei 1818 gesloten tussen het Verenigd Koninkrijk en Nederland en had tot doel de Trans-Atlantische slavenhandel met Nederlandse schepen tegen te gaan. In juni 1814 was dit reeds door Willem I bij Souverein Besluit verboden. Het verdrag voorzag in de middelen om het verbod te handhaven. In het verdrag werd bepaald dat elk schip van zowel de Royal Navy als van de Koninklijke Nederlandse Zeemacht een handelsschip mocht enteren als er een vermoeden bestond dat op dat schip slaven werden vervoerd. Indien er daadwerkelijk slaven werden aangetroffen diende de bemanning van het schip berecht te worden bij een van de Gemengd Brits-Nederlandse gerechtshoven waarvan de oprichting, de inrichting en de bevoegdheden eveneens in het verdrag werden bepaald. Bepaald werd dat zowel een hof werd opgericht aan de Afrikaanse kust, als in een van de Nederlandse koloniën. (nl)
