- Oscar Sonneck (Jersey City, 6 d'octubre de 1873 - Nova York, 30 d'octubre de 1928) fou un musicògraf, compositor, poeta i bibliotecari. Va fer els seus estudis a Heidelberg, Munic, Frankfurt i Sondershausen, amb els professors , Stumpf, Knorr, M. E. Sachs i Schröder, i des de 1902 fou director de la secció de música de la Biblioteca del Congrés dels Estats Units a Washington DC, per la qual organització, treballà sistemàtica i incansablement i amb un gran resultat. Sonneck dirigí i redactà l'informe anual vers les Copyright-entrèes de la secció de música de la Biblioteca del Congrés. També són notables els catàlegs sistemàtics que publicà de cadascun dels grups d'aquesta Biblioteca Dramatic music, 1908). Com a compositor escrigué diverses melodies vocals. Finalment, va publicar dos volums de poesies. Escrigué:

- Oscar George Theodore Sonneck (October 6, 1873 – October 30, 1928) was a U.S. librarian, editor, and musicologist. Sonneck was born in Jersey City. He studied philosophy and musicology in Germany at the universities of Heidelberg and Munich. From 1902 to 1917, he was head of the music division of the Library of Congress, and as such created a significant music library. Since 1915, he was also editor of The Musical Quarterly. As a writer, he specialized in the history of early (before the 19th century) American music. He died in New York City, aged 55. The Society for American Music was created in his honor, and initially named after him. (en)
