  4. All wages are converted to Euros at constant year 2000 prices using the German consumer price index (CPI) for all private households. As price level data and price indices are not available at the regional level we are forced to use a common deflator for all labor market regions. We correct for the right-censoring of wage records at the social security contribution threshold by imputing and replacing the topcoded wages following Gartner (2005). We run a series of tobit regressions of log wages in each year, separately by gender and the three education groups, including age and its square, a vector of region fixed effects, and a set of industry and occupational fixed effects.
