Updating from MacOS Catalina 10 ---> Sonoma 14

I have been (perhaps overly) conservative regarding system updates on my 2017 Intel Core5 iMac with a 1TB onboard SSD and 8GB of RAM, but am now finding some issues cropping up such as Safari not functioning entirely properly. I am currently running Catalina 10.15.7 and am considering updating to the current system Sonoma 14. Are there any potential issues or advice I should be aware of before I proceed? [more inside]

Mac laptop will connect anywhere except at home.

My ~one year old mac powerbook (M1Pro, Sonoma 14.1.3) recently stopped connecting to my home wifi network. I hadn't made any significant changes or updates. All my other devices still connect to home network seamlessly, including my older pre-M chip Macbook pro, and my current laptop itself also connects normally to other wireless networks per usual, including at work and cafes, etc. It also connects to my phone via hotspot. What to do/see/eat on an Oregon/NoCal coastal roadtrip?

I will be driving from Seattle to Monterey, CA. I've already got plans set up for the Oregon Coast as far as Newport, and also have plans for San Francisco and Monterey on the other end, but I have a block of about 6 days between Newport and SF that is unplanned and open to suggestion. See inside for details. [more inside]

Tiny corporate retreat space in CA Wine County?

I have a small consulting firm (3 people) and our busy season kicks off on Labor Day. I'm looking for a location in Napa or Sonoma where we can stay (nice place, separate rooms) one night and have access to a conference room, coffee and snacks, etc., on either side. This would need to be a weeknight in the next few weeks. [more inside]

Help me plan a San Francisco elopement

My partner's brother and fiancée are coming to San Francisco this weekend to get married. The very tiny ceremony is taking place at Point Reyes National Seashore, and I'm looking for recommendations for a restaurant for dinner afterward and a romantic hotel for them, either along the coast between Point Reyes and San Francisco, or in Sonoma. Priorities are good food and a scenic location, in that order. [more inside]

California Cycling Sonoma and/or Yosemite?

Planning a vacation in California in May and was thinking I would like to do some cycling and see a bit of scenery. Sonoma and Yosemite seem attractive options, but where to stay and hire bikes? How many days should I set aside for this? I could be in the San Francisco area for ten days or so. [more inside]

What should we explore around the SF Bay area on short notice?

A few months ago, I booked an incredible deal on a flight to spend 4 days next week in or around San Francisco. Life got busy, and I still haven't made any actual plans for what we're going to do, or where we're going to stay. We've been to SF a few times before, and want to rent a car and explore the area surrounding the city this time around -- particularly to the North. Any budget-friendly suggestions? [more inside]

Romantic getaway hotels near Bay Area?

Cheap wine county hotels/motels/ B&B's? I am planning a romantic getaway in August. We want to check out an area 1-2 hours away from San Francisco, and preferably in Napa or Sonoma. But, if you know of other romantic weekend getaways, we are open to exploring! We have been to hot springs that were also amazing. We are on a budget, but sifting through Kayak and hotels.com is a chore and not always accurate, so we would love your recommendations. Thanks so much!

Suggestions for California wine country in March?

I've booked tickets to San Francisco for a 4-day trip in mid-March. I am looking for advice on: (1) what Northern California area would be best to visit for a good mix of interesting activities and romantic/luxurious atmosphere (wine country? coast? city?); (2) good places to stay in $200-500 per night range; and (3) interesting things to do or places to visit. Help for a wayward gay?

A friend of mine, who cultivates an image as a mensch, is really a charlatan. He will do anything to be in favor, even if it means betraying his true nature: a gay man who is afraid of ridicule and exile. He moved to a very gay friendly city and his family followed him, to his misfortune. He is relying on me, his best open-minded friend, to set things right. I need some help. [more inside]
