Numbers seeking function
For some of my smaller spaces I want to offer design by the square metre and enable my clients to work out my fee*, which will hopefully help them to pick up the phone. The aim is to present people with a simple function so they can do it themselves, e.g. if they've got say 225 square metres what will that cost them? I'm hoping to find something people as non-numeric as myself can punch into a calculator:
area operation number operation number = $number [more inside]

Help a biologist trying to do math and in over their head.
I'm trying to do some modeling and would like to find the inverse of the equation f(x) = ln(|x|)/u - (ln(|vx-p|))/kv + C when 0<x<p/v.
Is this possible? Can anyone point me to a solution or a resource where people good at math answer these types of questions?
Stuck and really not sure who to ask. Thanks!
This should be basic geometry...
I want my camera to have an unobstructed view of the night sky down to about 10° above the horizon. There is a large thunderstorm several counties away which my weather app tells me has cloud tops up to 60,000 feet / 18,250 meters. My camera is 5 feet / 1.5 meters off the ground. Assume that I am on a level plain with no other obstructions. How far away do I need to be from the storm so that its top is less than 10° above my camera’s horizon? What would be the equation for this?
Could someone explain the variables of this equation to me?

Robust, efficient equation numbering in MS Word 2016
I'm writing a doctoral thesis in mechanical engineering. I will have lots of equations to write in my paper which need to be labeled with numbers. Throughout the body of the paper I will have to cross-reference those equation numbers in discussion. I am currently using the built in functionality in Word but it is not tailored for equation numbering and includes some very cumbersome and finicky workarounds. How do people handle this efficiently in their science/engineering papers? Are there 3rd party products that will do this for me automatically and update the numbers automatically for both the equations and cross-references to them?
I am willing to spend money on a solution if need be. The solution must work with MS Word 2016 and I also need the ability work on the same document on two different computers' installs of Word 2016. Any help is appreciated.
Combining 'things' in different ratios

My plants come in two sizes which I'll call thing1 and thing2. [more inside]
Math equation problem
Asking for a friend:
I have a question about how to work out a student's exam mark.
Unit 1 is worth 60%, Unit 2 is worth 40%. Both units are marked out of 80. For example, a student scores 67/80 on unit 1 and 69/80 on unit 2. What is their overall mark?
Thanks for any help!
Calculating the average wait time for a book on hold at the library (or "Why didn't they teach something useful like this in library school?"
Is there an equation for figuring out the average wait time for a book on hold at the library. Or how to figure out the average wait time I have left for a book I put on hold because I'm dying to read the rest of it. [more inside]

Principle domain of a polar equation?
I need help understanding the "principle domain" (a term only my professor seems to use) of a polar function. That is, how do I find the smallest value delta such that [0,delta] plots all of the unique points on the curve; any values greater than delta re-trace points. I suspect that if MeFi could identify the more common name for this, uh, procedure, I'd be set.

Math equation / algorithm for a database
I'm looking for some help with a math equation / algorithm I'm trying to create. I'm a programmer by trade and not very good at math so I'd like some help with this or perhaps a site where I could pay someone to come up with the equation I'm looking for. I considered rentacoder or elance however I'd be concerned if the companies there had the proper math knowledge. A lot of claims get made on those sites that turn out to be false. [more inside]
