How to accurately determine if a random method is indeed random?

I wanted to do a project where I measured how random the native RNGs are in various programming languages. How can I objectively measure my results? Also, if you run a random number generate say 100 vs 10,000,000 times should the distribution even out the more tests you run?

Did How to Blow Up A Pipeline get a wide U.S. theatrical release?

How To Blow Up A Pipeline was released on April 7 in the U.S., but typing zip codes into the Neon site results in just 1 theater each in NYC and LA and none for the other largest U.S. cities. Did I miss it going wide? The Wikipedia page has a "Concerns raised by authorities" section. Did Neon get scared to release it widely? Did theater chains reject it? [more inside]

Office 365 mail groups or distribution lists on iPhone

Hi Everyone When at the office I can use Outlook on the desktop to mail to a group/distribution list. When outside the office I would like to use my email distribution lists to send mail to a group however I cannot see it in the native iPhone mail app (I can see my contacts). The same for the Outlook app on the iPhone - I can see my contacts however there is no way to mail to a group. Is there and app or a way to send email to a group from my iPhone? Thanks!

How to not get screwed in a divorce?

I don't trust myself with the $1000...health savings account question

Had a medical procedure that cost $3100. Paid for it in full with money in my HSA. Provider will now bill insurance for me and according to benefits schedule I will get a check back for $1000 from insurance company. I would have been perfectly happy to have only paid out $2100 and have left the $1000 to accrue tax-deferred. But the provider insisted on payment in full at time of service. Can I put this money back in the HSA? I see that there is an entity called a "Mistaken Distribution" for instances when you use your HSA debit card by accident. The language surrounding this "mistaken distribution" warns of potential tax consequences. But in my instance I did not make a mistake. I already contribute maximally to the account so I can't go over. What should I do?

Is there a minimum sample size required to use the bell curve for performance management?

Is there a minimum sample size required to use the bell curve for performance management? I was wondering if small teams (3-5) can use the normal curve / bell curve for categorizing employees by performance? I have a feeling that the sample size needs to be much larger than that (3-5) for the bell curve to apply. Anybody know if there is a minimum? If possible please share link to supporting evidence.

Best distrubution for Linux VPS?

I run a couple of django-based websites/webapps. What OS should I use for my VPS? The most important thing is security and easy installation of packages (including dependencies). How Did My Coffee Cup Get Here?

I am sitting here drinking coffee from a Crate & Barrel jumbo mug (ie reasonably specialist item), made in China. What journey did it take from its origin in China to get to my kitchen? I'm particularly interested here in how freight & distribution of specialist items works - ie if you're shipping rice, I'm guessing you just fill an ISO container with rice and send it off, but if you've got lots of weird little things, how is the contents, packing, count, destination etc of a container determined?

Need help solving a zip archive timestamp & GNU make interaction problem on Linux, MacOSX, and other systems.

We ran into the following conundrum while distributing source code for some open-source software we produce. Our code is pretty straightforward C++ stuff with makefiles designed for GNU make. We distribute the package as a zip archive. Works on most systems (Linux, Windows, MacOS, FreeBSD and others). Now, zip stores and unzip restores the file timestamps. Problem is, if someone downloads the archive in an earlier time zone than the one in which it was produced, the unarchived files have a timestamp in the future. [more inside]

Game Over

MagazineDistributionFilter: I used to buy the videogame magazine GameInformer at my local bookstores and magazine shops. I live in Montreal, Canada. I did this for years, going out during my lunchbreak and picking it up, then reading it on the bus home after work. Then, all of a sudden this past January, all the stores stopped getting it. I looked everywhere. All the big bookstores, all the magazine store chains. It was frankly, bizarre. The only place that still seemed to get it was EB Games, and they only got a few copies. I now subscribe to the magazine, but the question of why they would suddenly stop distributing to newsstands here has plagued me. Does anyone know?
