Electricity & EV nerds: assemble!

I have a 2021 Bolt EV that I have been charging with this charger in a regular 3 prong outlet at home. I drive so little that this has been totally sufficient for my needs. I just moved and my new landlord wants to install a new outlet for me but I have questions. [more inside]

Motion-sensing cabinet lights

We have a pantry closet that’s too dim inside. I’d like to add wireless lights on a few shelves, to turn on automatically when I open the doors. I’ve been looking at options and I could use input about motion sensing when it's not dark, batteries vs. USB-rechargeable, and other recommendations. [more inside]

Kobo won't turn on!

I have a Kobo e-reader that is about 5 years old. I haven't used it in a couple of years. Now, no matter what I try (all kinds of suggestions from the Internet - various different chargers, pushing the button several times while plugged in, holding down for X seconds while plugged in, etc. ), I can't get it to turn on. The error message is "Please charge your EReader. Please connect to an AC outlet or your computer to recharge.". I realize this is my mistake. I should have topped up the charge occasionally. It's a micro USB if that helps. Do you know any hacks that I may not have happened upon? Am I wasting my time? Thanks!

I'm constantly shocking people. But why?

I get and give little electric shocks all the time. This means I often get zapped i.e. when touching a computer or door. That's annoying but okay but it gets worse when I zap coworkers, friends or even clients. I'm not so much interested in how to cope with this but more in what causes this issue. Do you know why I fry them?

Can I hack my Apple Watch into tracking sleep?

I used to own only a Fitbit Charge wristband. Now I own the Fitbit and an Apple Watch. But as the Apple Watch doesn't have an official sleep tracking function, currently I have to wear the Fitbit to bed to track sleep, and then use the Sync Solver apps to synchronise sleep data and fitness data between Fitbit and Apple. It's all a bit of a kludge. Is there a way to hack the Apple Watch into tracking my sleep patterns? [more inside]

Nexus 7 battery takes forever to charge

I have an 8-GB Nexus 7 that's about a year and a half old. Its battery life seems fine, but the actual charging takes an unreasonable amount of time. When it was new, it charged in about 2.5 hours; last night it took 7 hours to go from 30% to 60%. I'm using the adapter and cable that came with it. Is there anything I can do to make my device charge faster?

MacBook Pro Battery Life Question

Greetings - I "inherited" a MacBook Pro last year. It was a Apple MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz from Spring 2008. So it was 4 years old when I got it and I was told that the battery was dead and as long as I kept it plugged in, it worked fine, however, I would need a new one. So last year, I purchased a new battery and installed it. However, I am still noticing that the battery life is horrible. It seems like when I am using it to type a document or check emails and surf the web, etc, I literally can watch the battery drain. I would assume that it might hold a charge of about an hour and a half maybe? Is there any way I can "test" it to see what my actual battery life if? To ensure there isn't something else going on? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks,

How much should I charge for consulting work?

I will be doing some consulting work. Basically I will be strategizing with a very small company on optimizing their presence on the web and helping them with social networking. Here's my problem-- I have no idea what to charge for my time. I will spend two hours driving to them and probably an hour or two consulting. What do you think I should charge? I don't want to be too low but I am also scared that I might be too high. What do you think would be a good rate? I am located in the Philadelphia area if that makes any difference.

Web Hosting With Generous Bandwidth Limits

I need web hosting, and my needs are pretty narrow. I don't need fancy tools or applications, everything I'm doing is pretty much text. I don't need hand-holding or customer service. But what I DO need is to not have to worry that if any of my domains (I've got five or six) go viral, I'll be socked with $$$$ bandwidth overage bills. That happened to me once a long time ago, and I still have trauma scars. I realize that no hosting service can offer, like, infinite bandwidth. At a certain point, service would either cut off or else overage charges will cut in. But are there any web hosting outfits out there known to have particularly generous bandwidth limits, and reasonably priced overage charges beyond those limits?

Using Ipod Line-Out

I'm an old stodgy audiophile finding myself forced to resort to iPod, but I want to make the most of it. First of all, I'm looking for a solution that will allow me to use line-out audio on my ipod (5th generation), and simultaneously charge via AC. Does such a thing exist? Also, what's the standard audiophile solution for on-the-go listening? Headphones into mini-preamp into dock, I'd suppose?
