Please recommend a high-back booster with harness for travel

Recommend me either a high-back booster or a car seat that meets as many as possible of the following criteria: A) Prefer something with a harness (booster used as boosters don't typically have a harness, so this would technically be convertible booster/car seat). B) Airport- and Plane-friendly. So light. Ideally has a travel bag with wheels available. Happy to gate check or overhead. Could also actually use in-flight if it's so awesome that my son would be more comfortable that way than in plane seat. It would be nice if it folded up somehow, but haven't seen any with a harness that do that. C) Easy to install and uninstall in car. D) Ideally somewhat on the narrow side. Must be available in Canada. Would love to spend less than $300, but willing to consider options. [more inside]

Do you know a GREAT car service that goes from SFO to Sonoma County?

Car seat question: Mismatched height and weight

The booster seat says its weight limit is from 40lbs to 110lbs, and height is from 44 inches to 57 inches. My kid is 61 inches and 75lbs. Is there harm in keeping him in the bench-style no-back booster seat? or is it safer for him to not use a car seat at all?

A stupid vacation transportation conundrum

Mr. Millipede, our almost two and a half year old twins, and I are taking the LIRR to Montauk from NYC this weekend. Our train arrives at 4:45pm. I am an imbecile and I do stupid things sometimes, so here we go. I made dinner reservations at 5pm at what looked like a very close restaurant, but in reality requires an extremely strange roundabout route to get there from the LIRR station, one that would take 30 minutes walking (5 minutes driving). I need some advice. [more inside]

Confused about front-facing car seats

We have been lucky enough to keep our old Subaru going strong -- but how do we install a forward-facing car seat on a car without the LATCH system? Our child is growing out of the rear-facing seat. Can we install one facing forward with only the seatbelt? What is this "top tether" I keep reading about when I Google this? I'm assuming we might not have that either? Thanks!

How to tourist form Pearland TX with a baby (i.e. car seat!)

I'm going to Pearland TX to visit a family member. I'd like to do a small amount of touristing, specifically to tour NASA (anything else you suggest?). But how do I do that given that there's no public transit in Pearland and I would need a car seat for the baby? Note: I'm unwilling to get in a car with a baby without a car seat, even if the law makes exceptions for cabs or whatever. The laws of physics make no exceptions.

Persuading partner to use rear-facing car seat

Toddler_in_Rome is 13 months. Me and partner have bought our first car. I have made it very clear to partner that I want Toddler to be rear-facing for as long as possible, ideally until 4. I am a very anxious person and have massive worries about car safety. I've read so much about the benefits of rear-facing but partner won't listen and has bought a forward-facing seat. How can I persuade him we should buy a rear-facing seat instead? [more inside]

Renting a car seat/booster seat in the UK

We're renting a car in England soon and need a booster seat for the rental car. Google is surprisingly not turning up tons of options, and what I'm really looking for anyway are personal experiences with companies. We could pick up the seat at Heathrow if necessary -- and we won't be staying in central London, but in Kent. We really only need it for rides to/from the airport and for one longish drive on one of the days of our trip.

Preparing for 1st baby- when to save vs splurge? buy new vs used?

Preparing for our first baby in October and trying to figure out the smartest approach to equipping ourselves with everything we're going to need. So many choices to make! Hey kid, turn around!

My niece is 14 months old, 29 inches tall & 19 pounds. My sister in law already has her forward facing in her car seat. When she mentioned she was planning to turn her around once she hit 1 and asked if I had turned our son around yet I said no way (he's 16 months)! I said it was illegal in some states to turn them around until 2. Her and her husband shrugged it off and said well not here . Should I say something more? Should I send her some articles explaining the benefits of rear facing? Is it not really a big deal? I have no plans to turn my son forward facing regardless, but I would feel awful if something happened to my niece and I never spoke up. I mean no one plans to have an accident. Should I say something or just stay out of it. I know the usual advice on Ask is to stay out of it, but I'm asking anyway.
