Calorie tracker for those who eat actual food?
Covid-induced stress eating has prompted me to start tracking calories again. Most of the apps for this focus on packaged and restaurant food where I eat mostly whole foods that have no barcode to scan. I’ve also noticed that the food databases for many apps are user generated and thus full of errors so I’d like to avoid that too. Is there an app that’s better for this kind of thing? I don’t mind paying if it’s good.
How many calories an I burning in a bike stand?
I have a vintage Blackburn Magtrakstand. The bike is held upright by the rear axle with the 5 - magnetic resistance settings for/against the rear bike wheel. I'm trying to know how many calories I'm burning at each setting if I'm pedaling at a set speed in a specific chain ring and cogset. Does such a calculator or chart exist? Blackburn doesn't have one, but lots of people use these trainers. There must be something. [more inside]
Investment calculator that includes taxes, management fees, etc?
I'm looking for an investment calculator that will tell me, if I put in x amount each month for y years, what the expected return would be (either for a fixed rate, or even better for a pessimistic history-based model of the stock market). But I want the calculator to also be able to deduct taxes (either at the end or during, depending) and management fees. Does such a thing exist? [more inside]
What can I do with a talking graphing calculator?
I know the general wisdom on Mefi is that graphing calculators on the whole are overpriced and easily replaced by smartphone apps, but I was just reminded of a fancy talking TI84 I have from my school days, and I wondered what kinds of cool things it might be able to do. [more inside]
Indie scientific calculators
I need to buy a new scientific calculator (a physical one, not a phone app). I stumbled upon Numworks, which seems great. I now wonder if there are other interesting innovative calculators from smaller companies that I have never heard of. [more inside]
I'm self-teaching math. Help me pick out a graphing calculator! (+more)
I always hated math growing up. It didn't come to me naturally, took a lot of work, and I didn't have the most supportive teachers. As an adult, I'm giving myself a second chance at learning this stuff! Help me pick out a graphing calculator – and I'd love any tips or advice from anyone who may have done this too. [more inside]
What sort of genius do I need to hire, and where can I find them?
I am in the process of trying to create a complex pricing calculator for internal use in our business. I have most of the data, however I am hoping to engage someone on a freelance basis to help me complete the data set, as well as give some expanded detail on how this data (pricing) can change geographically. What specific professions should I be engaging, and where can I find them? More information below the fold. [more inside]

How do I get my online inventory tool viewed by retail store owners?
I programmed an online calculator tool that generates inventory purchasing recommendations for retail store owners. I would like to get feedback on the tool from people who buy inventory for their retail stores for a living. How do I do that?
Short of just walking into stores and bothering the owners to take a look at my program or paying for adwords or some such, I'm not sure how to get the word out about my new tool to people who would be interested in using it. Any feedback would be welcome.
multiple measurements converter/ calculator?
i have a string of measurements i would like increased by X. I've found many calculators that can do (1) measurement at a time, but is there one that does several at once? (when i say "convert" i mean increase in the same unit, not necessarily shifting/'converting' the unit to a different unit)
(i.e. 1,3,5,7,9,13,15,17 inches all increased by X)

So how much do you want to pay?
We are shopping for a new home. We think we have found a home we want to put an offer on. The thing is, we have no clue how much the mortgage payments will be. We know the taxes and insurance, but there are so many online calculators giving us very different numbers for the monthly payment. [more inside]

Help me find a multi-line (4-8 lines preferred) scientific calculator!
One of my chemistry courses this semester requires that I use a non-programmable, scientific calculator on all exams. Do you know of any multi-line calculators with a similar keypad to my TI-84+ Silver edition? A lot of the calculators I've looked at on Amazon appear to be of the 2-line variety; the ones that have 4-lines don't have the ability to take inverse logs or to create custom-defined exponents. It'd be really nice to have as large a display as possible; money is no issue.
Not my high school TI-82.
I'm taking Calc I this fall. I can borrow a graphing calculator for actual exams, but don't want to actually purchase one for day-to-day--or haul it around with me. I have an iPhone and a Nexus 7. Is there a graphing calculator app in one or the other app store that is clearly superior? I'm willing to pay, but under $10, ideally.
Is there an iPhone app to quickly add specific numbers?

HP 35s a good choice for Mechanical Engineering student?
I'm in my second year and so far my cheap little TI 30xIIs has worked fine for me, but my DC Circuits professor told the class that using the TI 30xIIs is cumbersome compared to the HP 35s for some material later in the semester. He said he highly recommends purchasing an HP 35s. I'm willing to spend the $50, but he's an Electrical Engineer teaching electrical classes. Would the HP 35s be good for me as a mechanical student?
How do I operate this vintage calculator?
looking for start-menu commandline argument calculator
Command-line calculator: I used to have a calculator program I put in c:\windows\system that took arguments, so I could type "c 5+2" into the start menu on W7 and a popup with the answer (7) would appear. Anyone know the name? Not quite a command-line calculator, since I want to pass in arguments and get a returned single value via popup.

Help me find a simple unit conversion tool for industrial use?
A friend is working in an industrial plant and needs to frequently convert convert lbs to kgs. They currently use a calculator and divide by 2.2046, but find constantly punching in "xxxxx / 2.2046 =" tedious and error-prone. They'd like a reasonably-priced device (a calculator or PDA application) with reasonably sized buttons or a touch screen that would simplify this process. They'd like to have the answer displayed as digits were input (without needing to hit = or enter), as well as being able to clear the input amount without resetting the units to be converted. Is there an online or otherwise calculator utility that can produce a multiplication column to the nearest integer if I need to (and I do need to) multiply a given integer (specifically, 8.57143) by all the integers from 1 to about 600, displayed in a list so that I don't have to multiply it each time? I may need to do other 600-deep columns with other decimally numbers, a few at most. I need to see the result, better yet print it. [more inside]
Please help me better understand repaying my student loans.
In 1997, I started making student loan payments, five months after graduating from graduate school. Shortly there after, in a sudden moment of sheer, blinding stupidity, I consolidated my loans, reducing my monthly payment and doubling the term of my loan. I do not want to make payments for 10 more years, however, I cannot figure out how to calculate the money I would save py doubling my payments this November. [more inside]

Jewelers and their ubiquitous calculator... why?
Why do jewelers always insist of giving prices read from a calculator screen and not from the price tag of the piece I'm looking at?
Do they give different people different prices? Or is it a way of accounting for fluctuating prices of gold or gems from week to week?
