MacBook Air battery that I just replaced still doesn't last

I have a MacBook Air (13", early 2015, i5) that had a bad battery. I just replaced it with an iFixit battery. After calibrating as directed, it was still running all the way down in less than 4 hours, so I reset the SMC, and that hasn't helped. Should I ask iFixit for an exchange and try another battery? Is there something else I should do? [more inside]

XPS-13 vs MAcbook Air 13" 2014

hi all, I'm debating whether to buy an XPS-13 2017 and a 2014/2015 MAcbook Air 13" I prefer to buy second-hand laptops so I can reduce my environmental impact. They both SAY that they have a long battery life, but how long are they really? For me, battery life is the biggest criteria, and I'm hoping to have a PC with a very long battery. I've found Macbooks to be fairly reliable and long-lived, and easy to get repaired if need-be. My last XPS got a tad wet and died. Really bad experience. It had amazing battery life though. If battery life is the only / main criteria, which computer will last longer, daily, really?

How long can shoe LED lights last?

I am in love with a pair of (women's) shoes that have LED lights in them that twinkle when you step. I am unlikely to wear them more than 2-3 times a year. The shoe's FAQ says they should last for 10,000 steps. Assuming I am not walking all that much when I do wear them, how long will they last? [more inside]

Baddery

Is there an OSX utility that will notify me if my battery time remaining suddenly decreases, e.g., going from five hours remaining to three hours remaining by opening a certain website? The fan spinning is a hint, but it isn't reliable. I've googled this but had no success.

Improving battery life for a Droid 3: energy management or rooting

I have a new-old Droid 3 (bought new, only started using it recently) and it's not holding a charge very long, even when I'm not actively doing anything with it (it can drop from 100% to 70% over night). I looked at its battery usage, and the bundled apps that I didn't want or use were using a lot of battery (YouTube was the worst, at 27%). Should I try some cellphone management apps (examples), get a new battery, root it to uninstall bundled apps I don't want or need, or root it to run a custom OS? [more inside]

Android tablet with best battery life?

My cheapo Android tablet finally gave up the ghost. I'm in the market for a new, nicer one and thought about getting the Nexus 7*. But searching around, it seems to have a lot of problems with battery life, even when on stand-by. I don't play games or watch videos or even listen to music much on a tablet. My main use case is reading and annotating pdf articles and books, especially when traveling (long flights) when battery life is kinda important. Are these battery life concerns for the Nexus 7 founded? Is there another Android** tablet that does better? [more inside]

New Paperweight Anyone?

My Android phone, a Samsung Nexus S, operates on Jellybean 4.1.1. Since the latest update, I've noticed a dramatic decline in the battery life--it will go from fully charged to dead within 3 hours of intermittent use, regardless of whether I'm on a 3G or Wifi connection. Looking for the best value AA battery available (or "Let's Have Some Truth in Battery Advertising")

So Energizer or Duracell? Or some other brand? I'm confused. Apparently they are both 5 times more powerful than the other. I'm looking for the best value-for-money AA battery on the market (i.e. battery hours per dollar). I understand it depends to some extent on the device. Let's say two devices - the TV remote control - and a digital camerra. Anyone have a link to the definitive report? [more inside]

Cell phone battery life

I've got batteries on the brain today (slightly-earlier post about aftermarket laptop batteries), but this thread and my growing frustration with my increasingly-relied-upon cell phone brought to mind another question: how much battery life does your cell phone really get? No matter where I am, how much I use it, or even if it's on or off, my Samsung SPH-N400 gets 24-36 hours per charge, at best, compared to the advertised "Talk Time: Up to 2.9 Hours, Stand-by Time: Up to 7 Days."
