Thanks For Playing Cards

Everyone loves a contest/giveaway, or a gift, and I've had a nice share of them lately.

John sent these Angels over for playing in his Guess A Missing Halloween Birthday Player Contest.

My guess was Mike Napoli, which was easy because I had just done a Happy Birthday post for him on Halloween. But the only reason I remembered it was his birthday is because I was reminded when I saw it on TCDB earlier. Anyhow, Napoli was one of the correct answers, so I won a prize.

The Trout card is really nice.
Reminds me of a design from the 90's that I can't put my finger on right now.

The second contest was by The View From The Third Floor and was guessing the statistical leaders in the World Series. Freddie Freeman came out of nowhere and practically wiped out everyone's guesses. Fortunately, though, three of us (Diamond Jesters and Baseball Cards Come To Life) guessed Garret Cole for one of the categories and we won. We each got an envelope of sports cards. Here's a sampling of the dozen or so cards:

I don't think that I have any 1989 Star cards in my Angels binders. I'll have to go take a look and then check to see what Angels Minor League teams are available, if any.

Nice selection of Hall of Famers.

Always nice to win a prize package.

The third contest was a giveaway by Crocodile Sports Cards for his Third Anniversary. I won a box of baseball cards along with two other bloggers (Cards Over Coffee and The View From the Third Floor).

Here are just some of the great cards out of the box including plenty of Angels.

Tons of vintage.

Even a relic.

And lots of sparkly.

It took me forever to finally see that oriole behind Ripken. I kept seeing it as an explosion.

Not really a contest, but more of a trade, I selected this card from Matt's Time Travel Trading:

I'm not ready to claim Dale Murphy as a PC just yet, but I do pick up a card of his here and there.

Matt threw these two cards in the envelope as well. Nice.

Another non-contest pickup is these Topps Stickers send by Randy (rhsahl) as a Christmas gift:

These are very welcomed as now I just need the Trout for the team set.
Thanks Randy!

And Merry Christmas to you all.

Third Floor Prize Winnings

The View From The Third Floor recently held a multi-week, multi-post contest to guess the nine (or eighteen) player cards he had picked out for each NFL team. Pretty fun trying to guess who he felt was worthy. I ended up with the second most correct picks (congrats Jafronius) and the only one to guess a perfect 9-pocket page so I got two PWE prizes!

Pro Set PWE

Topps Attax PWE

Thanks again!

My First TCDB Contest Win

Yes, there are occasional contests on TCDB.

RonEaston recently held a "Guess the Card" contest in the forum. I don't remember the details, but I happened to guess the correct card from his collection. The prize was a few nice cards based on the winners' interests. Ron saw that I'm a Vladdy fan, so he sent me three nice cards:

2004 Fleer Inscribed Gold #1, 016/199

2008 Topps Triple Threads #64, 1093/1350

2022 Donruss Red #258, 1078/2022

Thanks Ron!

Winnings From Johnny's

I won some cards from Johnny's Trading Spot, some really nice Angels cards.

2018 Donruss Optic #121 Post Swing Variation

And that's how I knew it was a variation. John graciously labeled it, and some others he sent.
I would have eventually figured it out, but nice that I didn't have to go do all the research myself!

There are a couple World Baseball Classic games on TV today I'm hoping to catch. I don't think Japan will be on, but I know that the U.S. Team will be. Ohtani has been tearing it up for Japan. Looking forward to watching.

I've been receiving a lot of Brandon Marsh cards lately, and every time I do I wish that Angels hadn't let him go. It was nice to see him in the World Series last year, I was hoping the Phillies would have won.

Another one of the cards that was marked by John was the 2022 Topps Holiday Metallic.
I went to TCDB to try to get my head around these and had to walk away for a few minutes being overwhelmed by the number of parallels. I know these Holiday cards are considered a separate set from the regular issue, but the design is so close, in my mind it's another of an abundance of parallel cards. Topps has destroyed the hobby for team collectors.

2022 Panini Chronicle Titan - Pink Pulsar
These look great here, but nothing compared to the nine-pocket pages of sparkly cards John's been showing on his blog.

Contest Winnings And Then Some

I won a prize recently as part of Chavez Ravining's contest back in June, Alex posted about "the card that started it all"...the card that got him started collecting. He asked the question, and held a contest. Of the 15 winners selected I was #13 and here are my winnings:
Two really sweet relic cards. I was especially happy to get the Votto, since I'm a "Someday I'll Have a PC of Joey Votto" guy. The Moncada card is just awesome, I can't stop staring at it.

Along with the contest winnings, Alex threw in a bunch of Angels cards gratis, most of which are parallels and inserts.

AND there were also thirteen other cards to boot!

Oh and the card(s) that started it all for me?
Two wax boxes of 1983 Topps, in 1983.

Keep up the great blogging Alex, and thanks again for the contest.

Highly Subjective Contest Winnings

I won a contest held by Highly Subjective a couple months ago where you were to guess the number of unique Kirby Puckett cards he has in his collection. My guess was 444 (my favorite number) and the winning number was 445!

My winnings were a fat repack of my favorite team, and an unopened pack of Stadium Club:
Sweet!

First, lets rip the Stadium Club.
Good looking design.
I especially like the Posey Special Forces, and the Michael Conforto action shot.

Here's how the Angels repack stacks up:

I picked out some of the gems (or HITS like any good repack has):
2014 Donruss #301 Press Proof 172/199

2017 Topps #444 Gold 1595/2017

2005 Topps #21 1st Edition

2002 SPx Winning Materials #WM-SE

2005 Topps Total #643 Silver

1978 TCMA The 60's #16
Signed with his ROY noted. How cool is that.

1964 Topps Venezuelan #32

1995 Topps Cyber Stats #104

1990 Baseball Cards Magazine #51

Nice Mike Trout Mix

 2000 Topps Finest

1996 Flair

1975 Hostess Twinkies #82

2018 Topps MLB Awards #MLBA-14 Gold 38/50

That's a repack I'd buy any day of the week.

Much appreciated Brian, I hope you keep on adding those Puckett's to the collection.
