7-Eleven Drops Citgo

Ol' BC posted on the Venezuela connection on the 24th. Now, 7-Eleven bounced them. One thing you can be sure of is that Ol' BC doesn't buy that much gas. Maybe it's the politics of it all. Way to go 7-Eleven!!

Just an observation.

John McCain Doesn't Get It

But Ann Coulter clearly does.

It turns out, the only reason McCain is demanding that prisoners like Khalid
Sheikh Mohammed — mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, the beheading of journalist
Daniel Pearl and other atrocities — be treated like Martha Stewart facing an
insider trading charge is this: "It's all about the United States of America and
what is going to happen to Americans who are taken prisoner in future wars."

Being nice has never worked. It hasn't worked raising your children and it hasn't worked with the criminal element. It hasn't worked and there is no indication it ever will. Ann gets it.

But being nice to enemies is an idea that has never worked, no matter how many
times liberals make us do it. It didn't work with the Soviet Union, Imperial
Japan, Hitler or the North Vietnamese — enemies notable for being more civilized
than the Islamic savages we are at war with today.

Yeah, Ann can get a bit carried away from time to time. But, she is fun to read and seems to understand this issue quite clearly.

Gasoline Under Two Dollars

Today! How long? Who knows? It's fairly obvious games were played with gas prices. Not that much has changed since pump prices were in excess of three dollars.

This has been blogged about all around lately. Ol' BC won't be shopping at Citgo. Not much was made about it being owned by the government of Venezuela. I just don't think Hugo Chavez deserves my assistance. You would think that his interests in America would have been mentioned with his recent spiel at the U.N. and the news coverage it received.

Just a thought.

Moooooslems Still Don't Get It

This is funny! Of course the Muslim community wants to whine and complain, but then again, they have never had much of a sense of humor.

A car commercial proclaiming a jihad on the U.S. auto market and offering
“Fatwa Fridays” with free swords for the kids is offensive and should not be
aired, Muslim leaders said

Somebody is thinking. Commercials tend to get real boring and very very stale. My guess is that most in the Columbus area will know the name Dennis Mitsubishi. But here's the kicker....

He also said the Council on American-Islamic Relations would likely contact the
dealer to “offer some kind of cultural or sensitivity awareness training.”

Now that really makes Ol' BC feel better. Maybe they should offer sensitivity training to the jihadists who hack people's heads off on video tape so the world can watch. They could use a dose of "sensitivity." Mr. Dennis, it seems, just has a sense of humor.

No Wonder Johnny Can't Make Change

Ol' BC has carped and complained at great lengths about young people seeming to be much slower academically, in general, than previous generations.

Debra Saunders had a recent column that dealth with some of it. Consider this.

Instead of memorizing 5+4=9, students would look for creative ways to solve the
equation, such as that 5+5=10, but since 4 is 1 less than 5, the answer is 9. In
the name of creativity, new-new math was both time-consuming and boring.

Amazing. Much has been made of it no longer being necessary to be able to read lengthy texts and understand what you've read, but this is ludicrous. Here's where it leads.

Milgram found that the number of California State University students -- that
is, the top 30 percent of high school graduates -- who needed remedial math more
than doubled, from 23 percent in 1989 to 55 percent some 10 years later.

Think about that for just a moment. Over half of the top thirty percent required remedial math. What does that say about todays education system? I may be able to understand Bush's thinking in spending increases in education, but here's the problem. Spending for education has been increasing for decades and the performance of our students has continued to wane.

How about the average Joe, say maybe in the 60th percentile? Doesn't have a chance. He may never learn to count back change, but he can be schooled to ask, "would you like fries with that?"

Just an observation.

One Problem With The Press

That problem would be.....well, let's put it this way. Disregard for the facts should they be unfavorable to the left.

Here's an example. All this guy did was write a screenplay. Along the way he tried to give accurate portrayals in substance in "The Path To 9/11."

In July a reporter asked if I had ever been ethnically profiled. I happily
replied, "No." I can no longer say that. The L.A. Times, for one, characterized
me by race, religion, ethnicity, country-of-origin and political
leanings--wrongly on four of five counts. To them I was an Iranian-American
politically conservative Muslim. It is perhaps irrelevant in our brave new world
of journalism that I was born in Boulder, Colo. I am not a Muslim or
practitioner of any religion, nor am I a political conservative.
What am I? I
am, most devoutly, an American. I asked the reporter if this kind of labeling
was a new policy for the paper. He had no response.

Amazing isn't it? The left leaning media has such little regard for facts.

Sensitive Moooooslems

They're at it again. This time it is Pope Benny. Muslims are demanding an apology for the Pope quoting a Medieval text which depicts some of the religion's shortcomings. Maybe Catholic venues are going to move up on the terror target lists. Catholics may move ahead of regular infidels as those endangered by the Muslim nuts.

The Pope apologized for the reaction. He clearly didn't apologize for the quote itself. Hell, it's centuries old. Way to go Benny.

Just an observation.

Update: Here's a letter to the Pope from Captain Ed. Good stuff. May ruffle a feather or two, but sometimes the truth stings a bit.

Gas Prices - GOP Needs More Than That

Sure gas prices are coming down a little. Some are suggesting this may help the GOP's chances of not getting waxed in November. It's going to take more than that.

"We're seeing that, as gas prices have come down, attitudes about the direction
of the economy have improved,"

This may be true. However, there are other things to consider.

28 percent said the economy, followed by Iraq at 25 percent and terrorism at 18
percent. Moral issues (15 percent) and immigration (14 percent) were fourth and
fifth, respectively.

That's one poll's findings. Here's the rub. Even though gas prices are coming down, domestic car makers are still getting their asses handed to them by the Asian manufacturers. Now Ol' BC wrote a paper in college several years ago about how the UAW would price their members out of a job in the next couple of decades. I missed it a little, but now it's coming to fruition. One can go on and on about the Donks' obsession with high taxes and how that has played into the situation, but that's another post. Right now it's Dubya's fault, just like Hurricane Katrina.

Here's the deal of the day. Most are fed up with the crap they've been fed. Dubya has been bludgeoned in the press. The left has proposed nothing and that looks like a very good plan at this point. People better wake up. The Socialists/Communists are making strides in this part of the world. We are really close to being able to lend those dictators a helping hand. November will tell.

If conservatives really stay home as a protest over tax and spending policies it could be really big to the future of this country.

El Nino!!

El Nino has formed again. At least it says so here. That makes Ol' BC happy happy happy.

the El Nino probably will spur warmer-than-average temperatures this winter over
western and central Canada and the western and northern United States.

Now, winters in the Great Lakes Region pretty much suck, so this constitutes grand and glorious news at the Ol' BC household. It also appears that El Nino makes the Atlantic hurricane season milder than normal.

There are, of course, some negatives. Those have to be the fault of George Bush though. After all, he caused Hurricane Katrina.

Venom Spewing Press

When did this all begin. Two words - Richard Nixon. There was a certain respect for the office of president through the Lyndon Johnson administration. But, Nixon came in after LBJ's Great Socialist Society and had quite a mess on his hands. Johnson escalated the Vietnam War. Ol' BC still thinks if Kennedy had done this he wouldn't have been shot. Nixon got us out. Period. Out. Just as the left had wished. For some reason the press hated Nixon and it was so obvious. It drove him nuts and his paranoia got the best of him, or so it seemed at the time. In retrospect, it appears the press corps got their first win and quite a taste for blood from those who don't subscribe to the socialist/communist dogma. Getting old sucks, but there is a perspective years on this earth give one that cannot be acquired in any other manner.

ABC Stays With Miniseries On 9/11

It really didn't take that much backbone, but when Clinton administration folks squawked, Ol' BC figured ABC would back down. After all, people have been known to die when they cross those people.

Read one article here.

R.I.P. Steve Irwin

A couple of days of silence didn't seem like too much. He was quite a guy. If you can find time to include his widow and children in your prayers, please do.
