Did you guys know we have a podcast where we talk all things Seattle Mariners? Check it out. This week, we talk about a few of the young guys turning heads in 2019 and more.
On today’s show, we talk about Mariners lefty Justus Sheffield‘s second career start, this time against his former team the New York Yankees. The stat line wasn’t great but what did our eyes tell us? Was Sheffield better than James Paxton this game? Spoiler alert: we think it was.
After we break down the start, we head down to look at the hottest player on the planet right now, Mr. Julio Rodriguez, who is obliterating the Cal League for the Modesto Nuts. We discuss the implications for his timeline and wonder if Rodriguez can overtake Jarred Kelenic as the #1 prospect.
We also ponder about our rank of 2019 first-round pick, George Kirby. Are we too low on him? Did the Mariners get the steal of the draft? It is quite possible that the answer is yes.
Finally, to wrap up the show, we go around the diamond to start to identify needs entering the 2019-2020 off-season. Which spot in the lineup has the biggest hole to fill? How much pitching is needed? What kind of pitching is needed? And we discuss why blocking young arms like Dunn, Sheffield, and Gilbert isn’t nearly as bad as many think.
