ScreenMemory replaces your memory

via Gumroad.com

A full workday, recorded. Do you remember what you worked on June 1st, 2024? With ScreenMemory you could simply take a look!

Timeline

A rich timeline lets you easily see what app you used, at what time, and for how long. It makes it very easy to get an overview of your day, while also letting you really dig in to find out exactly what you did.

Annotations

These are a great way to increase the skimmability of your timeline, for those days where a lot happened.

Search

While recording, ScreenMemory also performs light OCR to make the entire history searchable.

Calendar

Preparing for a meeting and forgot what you worked on last week? With the calendar you can easily jump to any day.

Days with more, or less, recorded content will have a bigger, or smaller, red markings.

Blacklist

Some applications are sensitive, such as password managers. With the blacklist feature, you can select applications which you wish to not capture. They will simply not show up in the screenshots.

Settings

ScreenMemory comes with a lot of configurability. You can reduce the time between screenshots, adjust how long data is stored, turn on or off the OCR processing, colors, and so on.

FAQ

  • What about privacy?

ScreenMemory does NOT send any of your recorded data away from your device. This includes actual screenshots, text processed for search, and any metadata about your application usage. It does require temporary internet connectivity during license activation, this happens when you input a license code, and thereafter once or twice a month. If you have concerns or questions, please reach out.

  • What about security?

It is as secure as your computer, if someone has access they can look at your ScreenMemory data. But in this case, they can also look at your email, messages, computer files. Use with care, don't leave your computer unlocked anywhere. Encrypted storage, requiring a PIN to open ScreenMemory is a planned feature.

  • Refund policy?

7 days refund policy, no questions asked.

  • How much storage space and CPU does it use?

This is the most common question about ScreenMemory, and also the hardest to answer, because the amount of storage depends on the settings used and the environment you are using it in. Nonetheless, here is an example from me (the developer of ScreenMemory).

    For some context:

    • I work as a professional software engineer
    • Normally I capture around 8 hours per day
    • I retain captures for 30 days
    • My screenshot interval is set to 60 seconds
    • Contents on screen is usually text documents, and occasional video meetings

Currently the average space used for me is 280 megabytes per day with a total storage used sitting at 8.38 gigabytes. Generally, screenshots of text compress pretty well, so that's why the average per day is quite low.

    Things to consider

There are many variables that increases the storage needs, here are some variables to consider:

    • Screenshot interval - if you set it to 1 screenshot per second, your storage space is likely to fill up very quickly
    • Number of screens and their sizes - if you run eight 4K monitors, that's going to take a lot of space to store

What does ScreenMemory do to help manage space?

To help, sane defaults are used - it has an interval of 60 seconds, only stores for 7 days, and only the active monitor. It is recommended to take a moment to play around with the settings to find what works within your environment. Some customers change the location of ScreenMemeory to a giant disk, so that they can store essentially unlimited data.

  • Which systems are supported?

macOS 13 and above. Intel and M series.

Great app. Appreciate the price and simplicity of the user interface. My only request is to add keyboard shortcuts to toggle the recording.

Really great software, for me the perfect Mac alternative to ManicTime on Windows. I really wish there would be an option in the future to take an additional screenshot when switching applications.

Love this app. Really allows me to focus on my work during work time instead of tracking how I spend it.

This is a perfect app to keep track of what I've done or don't remember doing. I have the time interval set to 30 seconds to record all my activities. I used to use another app called Rewind but ScreenMemory is more straightforward and much easier to use.

The ScreenMemory concept is incredibly practical. There have been occasions when I've wished for a kind of time machine with a search engine to recover lost information. Visual memory is a powerful form of recollection, and I have a sense that this app could be even more beneficial than I currently anticipate.
