If there is one Canadian crime drama that I think deserves to be picked up for U.S. viewers, it’s Hudson and Rex. This series is a lot of fun, and it gives us one of the best crime-solving duos ever.
However, there is some sad news for Hudson and Rex fans. The series is mourning the loss of one half of the duo. Diesel vom Burgimwald, who played Rex in seven seasons of the Canadian drama, has passed away.
What happened to Diesel from Hudson and Rex?
There’s no doubt that the series offers some wild storylines. Rex is the smartest dog on the whole of TV. He solves so many crimes, and he’s always able to help the humans around him. The series is not going to be the same without Diesel.
Dog trainer and owner Sherri Davis confirmed the loss of Diesel with People. He was diagnosed with late-stage cancer and sadly passed away during the filming of season 7. The pup was just eight years old at the time of his death.
Diesel was certainly a special pup. While Davis was visiting a German Shepherd breeder, she saw Diesel peeking out to see her. It turned out that he had been a returned pup called Dodo. He was “no good” according to the breeder, but Davis saw something special in him, and now he has become a dog who has entertained us, made us cry, and made us laugh all at the same time.
Special pups are taking over in Hudson and Rex
As fans of the series will have noticed, Rex is still around in the story. That’s because the mantel has passed onto other pups, and there are a few in particular. It’s not exactly clear how many, but some of the dogs who have stepped in after Diesel’s passing are the nephews of the German Shepherd. It certainly is a family affair.
The cast and crew are certainly mourning the loss of Diesel, but the show must go on. And if you have not checked out Hudson and Rex yet, you need to. It’s perfect TV!
Hudson and Rex is available to stream on City TV+ in Canada.
