Description

Problem:

  • Administrators of a Wiki on Wikibase Cloud need to provide an Impressum page. An impressum is similar to an imprint; Its legally required for most websites according to German law.
  • Currently, administrators receive no guidance in creating an Impressum page.

Suggestion:

  • Describe the need for an impressum on the newly-created Wiki mainpage and link to the existing help
  • Have a (red)link in the footer of a Wiki linking to a standard impressum page (which also would match the requirement that an impressum should be easy to reach and alleviate the need to set up a page on their own)

Very rough sketch:
{F35256006}

→ Would need investigation from developers to check feasibility (ticket T310988)

Approaches considered

  • create "Content" tab and ability/link to create an imprint page from there
  • Point out the need to create an Imprint on the main page of the newly created wikibase, and provide placeholder (footer links) for the page to contain the Imprint text
  • Provide a template/information on the Imprint content when creating the Imprint page

Event Timeline

Possible solutions mockups:

point the need out on wiki: explain it on the main page template and have a red link in the footer.
Would need: template for new Wiki’s main page, Configuring the footer, removing unneeded links, creating impressum-link

point out the need in our admin UI: This makes sense if we can check if an impressum page is there. Otherwise it is cluttering the UI with a reminder people can't act upon.

I think we would need to hardcode a place for impressum anyway, since the link should be always visible in the footer, which users currently can't config themselves anyway, which would ease both solutions as we would know where it is.

Just a note: There's already a MediaWiki page explaining the need of an imprint with some helpful templates: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikibase/Wikibase.cloud/Imprints

Initially going to solve this with Documentation and onboarding flows outside of this ticket.
