Radar Cross Section Reduction

Course Description

In this course, you'll get an overview of electromagnetic scattering and how scattering can be controlled or modified to achieve radar cross section reduction (RCSR). You'll learn the basics of scattering and RCS; how to use shaping and radar absorbing materials to control and modify scattering; special considerations for antennas, propulsion systems, and airframes; how to apply RCSR principles to aircraft design; and low observable (LO) aircraft manufacturing and maintenance challenges. During a lab day, you'll gain hands-on experience using computational electromagnetic (EM) tools. Participants will also perform materials characterization and work in teams to treat an LO test object, competing to to minimize its RCS.
