Description

J. KBYSER..
Coal Stove.
Patented Jam-25,1870.'
N.PE`IERS. PNDTOJJTNDGRAPHEFL WASHINGTON. fl (IA waited Staten JOHN n. KEYSER, 0F NEW YORK, N. Y.
Leners Patent No. 99,092, dated January 25, 1870.
COAL-STCVE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN H. KEYSER, of the city and county of N ew York, in the State of New York, have inventedanew and useful Improvement in Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is 'a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this speciication, in which- Figure 1 is a diametrical section through the upper portion of my improved stove, showing the interior arrangement thereof.
Figure 2 is a diametrical section, taken in a plane at right angles to the sectional plane of lig. 1.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the bonnet, detached from the stove. v
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.4
This invention relates to improvements on stoves, which are used for warming rooms, and which are constructed with single cylinders, and direct draught-passages.
The object of my invent-ion is to improve stoves of this class, by the arrangement of a perforated dome or bonnet above the fire-chamber, in such manner that the products of combustion will be arrested, and concentrated over the fire, and then directed forward to the front ofthe stove on their way to the escape-pipe, thereby eifectng a very perfect combustion of the gases, and utilization of fuel, and greatly improving the heating-qualities of the stove, as will be hereinafter explained.
To enable others skilled in the art to understand my invention, I will describe its construction and operation.
In the accompanying drawings, fig. 1, I have represented my invention applied to a single-cylinder surface-burning stove, of which- A is the body of the stove;
B, an illuminating-section; and
C, a circular, perforated, and adjustable ring, which may be used for admitting air into the combustionchamber, above the fuel.
D is the top cylindrical section of the stove, from which a pipe, F, leads o'fIn to the chimney.
The parts lettered B and C are not clailned under this petition, as they form the subject of claim under a petition for Letters Patent, marked case B, and
The perforated and ill uminating-section B has a circular ange, b, applied within its contracted upper end, which flange inclines downward-and inward, and forms a deector for arresting the upward course of some of the products, and turning them downward toward the fire, for more perfect combustion.
This flange or deiiector is fully set forth in the Letters Patent granted to me on the 22d da of Septem` ber, 1868, and is not claimed under this petitln.
On tlsilange a domeor bonnet, E, is supported,y
which bonnet has an opening, a, through its front side, for the escape of the products into achamber, c. This bonnet flares downward, and has a rounded top. It receives the heated products within it, and by concentrating and arresting them directly over the incandesspace is formed by this bonnet and the top section,
and forms a flue for heated products, as above stated. This bonnet E, which may be made of cast-iron, can
be so applied as to allow of its removal at pleasure, or A it may be permanently secured in place.
The perforated ring C is so located, with referenceI to the flange b, that air can be introduced into the combustion-chamber, at the upper portion of section B, for applying oxygen to, and thus assisting in the combustion of the gases under the ange b, and in the.
bonnet E.
Having described my invention,
Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The bonnet E, open in front, and arranged in the top section D, substantially as described.
2. The combination of the bonnet E, with the deiiecting-tlange l), substantially as described.
JOHN H. KEYSER.
